  1. Most Military style firearms have doubled or tripled in the last month. Though I do not collect purely as a monetary value. The history and what has been pass down to us by our fathers is of the greatest value.
  2. Will send photos. Wife currently has camera she will be back from her travelers in about a month.
  3. Returning to the Barrel: I also have a barrel with the star. Also with J.A.30-06 next to it and 45-06 on the other side of it. It has no serial number just a 41 stamped where it should be. Any thoughts?
  4. Thank you for all the help and information. It is invalueable.Thank you for making it available. On this day of memory I would like to thank my uncle who left me the JSAR that he used in the Pacific campain WW2. Also my other uncle Harry, who recieved the Silver Star postumously after 28 days on Iwo Jima. It was his twenty first birthday.
  5. Can anyone help with information on serial number 9486 ?
  6. Thanks for all the information everyone. Its nice to know that even though the records are incomplete there are knowledgeable people to help.
  7. [bbl groves] Do you mean the grooves for the pins that hold the sight in alignment? The reason I am inquiring is that the barrel on my JSAR does not have serial numbers. It is a military barrel not Winfeild. The barrel collar has a 41 stamped on the tang. The Barrel at the collar stamped: [J.A. 30-06],at12:00 -[ 45-506] at 3:00 -[Dutch proof mark five pointed star] at 6:00. Center guide Marked [30-06] at 12:00,[41] at 6:00 [M in circle]cast on right side,[A] cast on left. Barrel tip O.D. 0.560 for one and three quarters of an inch, step up to 0.590 O.D.to three and one half inch's from tip,to 0.620 O.D. start of taper. The [bbl groves] are on top. There is only a modified blade,no ears, and no bayonet lug. bottom - five pointed dutch proof mark. Center guide- 30-06 at 12:00 and 41 at 6:00
  8. Would the front sight blade from the JSAR fit onto the machine gun barrel? The inside diameter of the JSAR sight being 0.560.
  9. Are the barrels on the JSAR and Johnson machine gun interchangeable ?
  10. This question may have been asked before. What is the significance of the four stamped numbers on some JSAR butt plates.
  11. Thanks to all of you for the information. I was not aware of the significances of these rifles till a few months ago when I found where they had been stashed over the years. This JSAR and a 1943 M1 Garand still wraped in the original Visking.
  12. Yes I agree that the cost verses reward might not play out.Though I believe their are only 27 JSAR that appear in the Johnson Company records of receipt and transfer to the U.S.Marine Corp.If the data on these JSARs were published I would not think that I would be the only one breaking down their rifle to see if any parts matched these. If they could only talk. Some times they can.
  13. Not asking for any information.Just stating that in the field parts are often exchanged or replaced. With the known serial numbers and the known parts numbers lists it would be interesting to see if any of these parts have appeared in any ones rifle.
  14. Yes I believe I understand what you are saying.What I was referring to were numbers 3401 5700 5743 7137 7246 7786 8031 8126 8204 8319 8475 8507 8587 8785 8917 9084 9117 9146 9281 9299 9313 9424 9486-0988 7788 8192 9186
  15. I am not comfortable,at this time, disassembling this weapon. What I do have is barrel # 45-06, bolt #9321.As usual everybody in the field playing with their weapons. This makes things interesting.Do any of my parts come from the known serial numbered rifles shipped to the USMC.Has anyone done research for parts? Does not seem like it would be to hard to do with the known ledgers. Thanks for the useful information,as usual one answer always leads to more questions.
