  1. Thank you for sharing these awesome photos and the information on the maple syrup process. Very informative and quite overwhelming to think of that much sap and that many trees! WOW!!!
  2. Lots of incorrect details.
  3. They are interchangeable. The top hat version was adopted after reports of the early fingers breaking off. The grooved top hat allows rim of cartridge to pull pin. If rear pin is hard to put in, release bolt catch by pushing in loading door. This takes pressure off catch and allows it to align with pin. Be sure to lubricate catch which pivots on the rear pin.
  4. I will not be at Tulsa this weekend. Still fighting liver cancer. Joe
  5. I have just returned from liver cancer Immune therapy treatment. It did not work and the three liver tumors have grown but not spread. It leaves you with fatigue and brain fog and I have not been answering messages. I have couple of weeks before different TACE procedure where they inject chemo drugs direct into tumors through thigh entry and then seal them into the tumors with a plug. Surgery is not an option because of my age. If we think Johnson's are expensive try cancer treatment ($400K+)
  6. Numbers are also found on the face of the stock against the magazine. I am of the opinion they were indications of which shift made the stocks. I have seen more at this location than on the exterior.
  7. The first bipod is definitely a Johnson bipod. If it is one I built it will have "JS" stamped under the feet and inside the main plate. I used to sell them for $1500 some years ago. If it is an original I would estimate $2000 plus. You will have to make a front mount to replace the rifle style forearm front block. For newcomers to website, factory started with BAR bipods, but army stopped supply, so Johnson Co. designed their own. I also built a few BAR style, also marked "JS".
  8. Drilling the through hole from the rear is fairly easy. The hard drill is the one from the receiver end. It is just below the thru hole and makes a figure 8 with the top thru hole. The drill wants to run out into upper drilling. It only goes about halfway just past the small recoil key. The wood must be carved just so to fit the jig and so the cross hole for the small recoil key intersects the notch on recoil tube. Actually these steps critical and my fixture has hardened drill bushings for each location. I bought the fixture from a person who had it built by an aerospace company during a downturn It took me a year to work out the kinks. Trying to teach my wife to be my eyes and continue stock making.
  9. A word of caution: It is necessary to permantly modify the LMG lower to prevent full auto. It is possible for the gun to "run away" if not modified and still has a rifle bolt. If owner has not fired it, ask for return option.
  10. It has the cross pin. Pin is straight but hard to find, 90 deg to lever.
  11. The missing rear sight dovetail can be replaced by attaching a piece with screws and epoxy to secure it from moving when installing new sight. The tricking part is getting the gap correct. Measuring a dovetail involves using two small drills in dovetail and measuring between them. It helps to have another gun to compare. Be sure screws don't interfere with bolt.
  12. The flat rivet is the give away for early reproduction.
  13. I just got a message from someone who paid $900 for a new stock and says it is not correct. I replied that I have 6 blanks to finish but have not worked on them due to heart/health problems. Hope to have them in next few months. Will post when ready. At Tulsa, I had 4-5 persons asked how to get tube out of sporter wood. Can someone make a short video or post pictures on removing hidden key, and removing recoil tube.
  14. The front end is fabricated sheet metal and is welded to the forging part with a special designed welder to insure perfect alignment. I note that he has a non factory operating handle. This could possibly stop bolt rotation not exactly opposite the collar lugs causing lug hammering. Also the buffer screw should be tightened snug to preload the small recoil key to prevent tube movement. He didn't mention front retainer pin. The small finger retainer is missing. Every time I see a Johnson video, it is done by someone learning and guessing about design features. I hoped someone would show removing the plugged hole with epoxyed key underneath on sporter stocks. On my new stock blanks, I am teaching my wife to make them.
  15. I built 2 or 3 of these bipods.
  16. Tulsa tables were down maybe 500 tables. At $200 each, many vendors did not attend. The show spread out the aisles and even inside the tables widened. Even saw an area of not gun related sales. Lots of JSAR's for sale at $11k. Buffed and blued sporters were asking $7k. Sold one new butt stock and many parts. One buyer picked up a nice military barrel for $600. Sold several sets of m14E2 stock hardware. After 36 years, I chose not to to renew. Johnson prices may be in a bubble which may burst.
  17. Thanks for all of your help in recovering from two major surgeries and five days in ICU. Heart valve replacement went well but then next day had a pacemaker installed. This sent my body into all sorts of new problems. Had more wires on me than a model A Ford and approximately 60 new holes in my body. Now home and recovering. Got OK to travel to Tulsa GS. Have what they call "brain fog" due to lack of sufficient blood flow. Will be at same location downstairs. Have 15 bayonet lugs to sell.
  18. My wife and a friend are traveling with me . They will drive, load and unload. I am limited to lifting 5 lbs and left arm to chest height with a sling. Will be my last Tulsa show after 36 years. Again thanks for everyone's concern. Joe

  20. I have a LMG bolt for sale. Test fired in live gun. These are slightly different from from rifle bolt. A rifle bolt will 'run away" until empty. Message for information. Joe
  21. Ed, I have no information on the auction buyer . I don't attend Dallas or Houston shows and have no rumors of a high dollar Johnson collector in Texas. My guess would perhaps have been Bruce. Wrong guess as usual.
  22. I need three main spring followers (top 0f spring). Will buy or trade new main springs, original bolts or new bayonet lugs /pins. Planning to be at Tulsa unless heart surgery interferes, lower level 12La. Hope to have two rifles for sale. Thanks, Joe
  23. Thanks for your concern. I am waiting for a aorta valve replacement. Lots of heath problems this year. Lost 6 weeks trying to get into a research valve study in Houston, finally not approved, so back to local doctors. Medical red tape is as great as any.
  24. The old vet's memory must have his age /dates wrong. If he is 86, he would have been born in 1935 and age 17 old in 1950's.
  25. An interesting rabbit hole is how many were printed, by whom, how they were isuied (w/ rifles or separate). Why not in Dutch? Any in Spanish?
