I have the opportunity to purchase a upper receiver group serial# 6087, complete with bolt, carrier, rear sights, etc. The asking price is $800. The upper receiver needs either reblued or reparkerized, but is structurally sound. Is this a good deal? Thanks for any input! GregOwens

I had the same issue before I knew about this site. I ended up buying the complete knob from SARCO for 200 bucks, and switched out the internals. Hope this helps....

Try SARCO, or Numerich . I bought the front takedown pin from NUMERICH. Other than those two places, you are at the kindness of our fellow board members.

SARCO sells the entire operating handle for 200 bucks. That's the route I went to replace my handles missing parts.

The only thing that I could make out of it is that both winning bidders appeared to be low volume purchasers on GB. They had under 10 purchases on the site. Also, the seller stated that they were "original" Johnson barrels, and some story that after the war, Johnson made these barrels for other weapons manufacturers, lol. So much disinformation out there. Buyer beware is all I have to say.

Those two barrels just sold on GB for $580.00 on the 03 barrel, and $800.00 for the Mauser one. Unbelievable. Not even real JSAR barrels.

Just fired my Johnson for the first time since inhereting it from my grandfather. I thank all of the board members who helped me out on the myriad of questions that I had in my search for parts. Special thanks goes to Ryche who provided me with the elusive bolt stop (no, not the bolt hold-open), lol. Ran 20 rounds of mildly hand-loaded 150 grain FMJ through her with zero stoppages and zero case malformations. I was happy just not to blow my face off! New issues: weak magazine door spring made it difficult to load the rounds, and Im guessing I need a new mainspring because my cases were launching pretty far? I guess my 11 1/2 inch spring just isn't enough. Successful day, plus the only other guy at the range was shooting at tannerite, and we blew the snot outta stuff. Thanks again all for helping me get the Johnson breathing fire again. Greg

Mr. Alpert, What do you consider "cheap" for these "as is" barrels. I really need a replacement barrel to take the place of my chopped one. If they were blessed off by a competent gunsmith, what would their value be? I know how much Im willing to gamble, but would like your expert opinion. Thanks. Greg

On my never ending quest for JSAR parts to get mine up and running I noticed two barrels up for auction on gunbroker. One appears to be a 7.92×57 Mauser and the other is only referred to as a 30 cal. Possibly English in origin, and looking pretty sketchy. Could they be used safely? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks all.

Interesting. Looks like the barrel that I have except mine is 22 inches without the compensator, and my compensator only has four cuts instead of five as shown. I don't believe Winfield's ever came with comps on them. Could be wrong though......

Mr. Scott, Of the 23 rifles listed, is there a trend on their serial numbers? Are they sequential, A series, B series, etc? Thanks again. Greg Owens

Great info for a newbie like me! After disassembly and cleaning, measured my mainspring and it was 11 1/2". Anyone have a replacement 12" they are willing to part with? I'd rather purchase from a fellow board member than SARCO, Numerich, etc. Thanks again! Greg

And here is the reason I'm not too worried if the front sight cannot be replaced...top of receiver ground flat to accept scope base. It currently has a Weaver K4 and vintage rings on it, so it is accurate to what my grand-dad had on it in the 50's or 60's when he was using it to blast deer and Elk in Montana. Greg
