New to the 5.7MMJ

6 posts in this topic

Well, lets see if there is "anyone out there."

I've wanted a 5.7 MMJ for years and finally got the opportunity to purchase an IAI Carbine with brass and dies. I won't get a chance to "play" with it for another few months, yet I want to get a "leg up" on what others have been using for loads.

Can anyone tell me what has worked for them? Using jacketed or cast bullets? Accuracy and case life? I'm all ears.

Eric

Ed,

I've sent two emails, did either get through to you?

I've also posted on reloading this cartridge on "Cast Boolits" and several posters commented on bent or broken "operating rods," (the piece of the slide that engages the bolt)from excessive recoil. Myself I've fired thousands of reloaded rounds in a .30 Carbine and never experienced anything that I could/would consider excessive in the matter of recoil or excessive violence in the operating of the action. I also am a little skeptical that a 35 to 45 grain bullet (approximatly 1/2 or less than the weight of a standard .30 carbine bullet) would generate more recoil than the standard load, even if loaded to the high end of pressure levels.

Has anybody got any input on this phenomena?

Eric

For reasons not clear to me, I don't think I have received your E-mails or they may have been spam-blocked by accident.

Try again. erjrice@aol.com

Sorry for the inconvenience. Also mention 5.7 mm as the subject? Ed J
