35 grain bullets and Hogdon H110

1 post in this topic

First, I'm a little surprised that this forum doesn't get very much traffic. The 5.7 Johnson is a great cartridge that would work amazingly well in any of the newer platforms of recent years, yet still has a super home in the original platform, the M1 Carbine.

I've only been working with it for a few years, and but haven't been able to devote the time I'd like to developing a 35 grain load. I've been using the Hornady 35 grain V-max, with 14.0 grains of 2400 so far which works well. Feeds super, is accurate at 100 yards, and just "looks cute." I haven't chronographed it as of yet, but that will come soon with the good weather. And now that I've got a lot more free time available, it should be in the next month or so.

I'd like to try H110 as it is one of the best powders for the 30 Carbine and I've eight pounds of it on the shelf. It's charted burn rate is right around the recommended powders for the 5.7, so I don't see a problem. I thought I'd start with 12.0 grains.

Any comments or suggestions?

Thanks,

Eric
