Just finished reading the W.E.B. Griffin and William E Butterworth IV book "The Spymasters", part of the Men at War series. In the book the author mentions the "Johnson Model 1941 Light Machine Gun" and has the character Canidy affectionately call it his "Johnny Gun". It is mentioned several times in the novel and with positive comments. ArtR

I read something one time that said the term "Johnny gun" Was coined by a reporter who was doing a story on the 41 JSAR. seems the term went a little farther. Ryche

I believe as the Thompson sub-machine gun was already used by the military and had the coined name "Tommy Gun", I think it was just normal for the Johnson to be baptised "Johnny" by someone at some time.
