Looking for information and part for SN 2527

3 posts in this topic

Hello all. I just bought my first Johnson 1941 and was hoping for some information on date of production/parts issued and also need some help finding an extractor screw-it appears to be complete otherwise.

It looks to be in decent shape overall-can't tell if the metal has been refinished until I give it a good cleaning-it has tons of grease everywhere.

The worst thing is that someone painted the stock black, but it is coming off pretty easily.

Any leads on the extractor screw would be appreciated, as will any information on production/delivery. I'm guessing this one is a bit late to have possibly made it to the Pacific, no?

Your JSAR #2527 is not listed in the log.  The serial #is listed but everything else is blank.  The 2500 series has 3 serial #s with no parts or disposition listing.  The 2400 series has 7.  The 1st 100 had more missing than listed.  Not sure what this means....stolen, defective, pulled for testing, etc.  I have a loose receiver #1234, also not listed, in mint condition which seems to be OK.  Maybe someone can shed some light on this subject.

#2526 was received from Cranston Arms on 12/3/41 and transferred to NPC on 12/4/41 while #2528 was received 12/11/41 and transferred 12/12/41.  I guess everyone was in shock for a few days after Pearl Harbor so nothing was received or transferred.

With regard to the "extractor screw", I am not sure what you mean.  The extractor is held onto the bolt by the operating cocking) handle.  No screws are involved.  If you mean the ejector, that is held in the slot in the receiver with a fat grooved pin, not a screw.

Thank you for the information on the missing part that turned out to not be missing after all. I'll chalk it up to my lack of familiarity with this design.  I must have seen the hole formerly plugged by the op rod handle and assumed there was a missing screw.

Thank you also for the quick response on what is (or rather isn't) in the log. I can only wonder what parts or originally had, although here are the numbers I could find on the parts currently on it:

Barrel-2076G

Magazine housing-B4737

Trigger assembly-A1439

Extractor-H0749

Firing pin-3812

Bolt-A5394

Locking can-B7099

Do the barrel or extractor numbers seem out of place given their G and H block on a no-letter block rifle, or is that pretty common throughout production?

As far as the lack of destination in the logs, could any of them have been sales/demonstration pieces for potential buyers?  I had documented salesman's Reising Model 60 a while back that I sometimes regret selling.  I guess we will probably never know.
