  2. Well if you were going to spend $5000 or so for a rifle, you might want to check it out yourself. It can save a lot of grief-I refuse to do phone bids/absentee bidding anymore due to the nature of the auction process anymore......
  3. I agree with Turbo...the chestnut ridge military stain works pretty good when I have used it.
  4. The thing is anyone of those weapons talked about would have brought good money some a 1000 times more than they were paid....to bad- dumb folks throwing $ in the fire. It will make mine worth just that much more.

  6. How much you need for the rifle?
  7. Some folks have paid over $9000.00 for a Johnson rifle so no your not insane, and in time the rifle you speak of will be worth many times its purchase price if in original condition....best of luck
  8. From the photos it looks nice. They need to show more close shots and I think it would sell in the $3600-4200 range depending on a closer view and someone may give more if they have the extra cash to play with...just my thoughts.
  9. I think the number on the flat maybe the rifle SN# B2557(maybe not) and the other number the issueance of order stamped number 2464. http://photobucket.com/albums/c17/ironmill...nson/?start=all
  10. Auction house found my bayonet and its now in the mail, bought in Nov. 2005 and in the mail now-I paid $345 including buyers prem. Better late than never-I wanted it as it was sold by same owner of rifle I purchased and went together. http://photobucket.com/albums/c17/ironmill...onA3640bayo.jpg Notice how auction companies use the word "rare" often...haha Regards Tim
  11. If any new members will go back to the first post of this board and read you will learn and see many photos and info on Johnsons. I have several times-there is a lot of info in the past posts. Tim
  12. I wonder what the 1 2 3 that is stamped on the bolt? Maybe inspector stamps? http://photobucket.com/albums/c17/ironmill...nt=8f63bf8e.jpg
  13. Corrosive ammo ate a lot of Johnson barrels. There are some examples with new Johnson barrels as they are from early 1950's from spare parts to refurbish, they were $109.50 for a refurbished military rifle in excellent condition with new Johnson barrel-refinished/new military stock. Winfield offered military Johnsons with fair/poor barrels for $68.50 in 1953. It did not take long for Winfield to run out of new Johnson barrels and military stocks then Winfield had ultilize what was available-usually sporterized stocks and barrels made by Apex Rifle Company. Bruce Canfields book on Johnson rifles tells all about this, I would suggest reading this book or even buying a copy. There are photos on this site of Johnson barrels-look at past posts. I might add that my father bought a NEW 2 story house with 1 car detached garage for $8,000.00 in 1954...so $109.50 was a lot of cash in 1953. http://www.brucecanfield.com/johnson-rifles.html Take Care Tim
  14. Thanks for all the photos...a picture is like a million words to me...
