I think we are going to see the private sale (gun show loophole) go the way of the dodo as part of a mandatory background check. You will have to go through a dealer at shows (unless C&R, or some other method). Nothing else is getting through the House.

Just got the bolt back. What you see (and this is how it was explained to me) is porosity left from the weld. Material was welded in a lump and then ground down and polished. I have been told there are no cracks, but the new material is a bit softer than the original steel. I am not sure I would want to shoot it, but apparently the guy who owned the gun did.

I have a metallurgical lab where I work. I dropped it off today. I of course got 10 different opinions from 10 of my work buddies. The lab folks will give me the real skinny (your tax dollars at work!).

It is the bolt carrier, not the bolt itself.

Pulled this bolt out of the bubba'ed rifle. There are two areas on the body that look like cracks or weld marks(?). Are these common? Never seen them before? Unsafe?

So, someday when there is a Johnson museum, it could find a home as an exhibit.....

I guess if he really wants to practice his TIg welding skills, adding new clip guides would be quite an accomplishment!

As it is man cave cleaning time, here is another bit lying around for years. This is an unfinished stock, which looks like Johnson wood to me, but I would like opinions. The two holes on the butt end are probably where it was held in a lathe. Also, Joe Scott, can it be finished off as a complete stock?

I am happy for it to go to a good home, preferably with a future. Let me add up the parts and I will PM you, or you can make me an offer. It has all internal parts. I didn't put them in the photos, but I have the buffer assembly and spring that go into the stock as well as a sporterized barrel (Johnson, but 2" shorter by Winfield I assume) with the locking bushing and guide collar. It is missing the wood, front and rear sights, and the rotary magazine. But I wiil throw in the swell 5-shot magazine you see in the photos!.

I picked up a JSAR that Bubba out did himself on. I am thinking if it would make a great candidate for a semi-auto LMG clone (for somebody else!). Any thoughts?

Joe is correct, but a Garand barrel should be marked even if it is a non-GI aftermarket barrel. A picture of the barrel removed from the rifle, so we can see the rest of it would be helpful.

Any Garand or 03 barrel should have marks. I have a Winfield sporter whose barrel has been shortened (no bayonet lug), but it is a Johnson barrel.

Post a picture if you can.

Like his confidence. Starting bid is $100. Photos are bad. When I look at the Cranston Arms mark the rifle looks reparked. I think I see pitting. To be honest, the written narrative is so long, I couldn't read it.

Rotated the hammer block pin on a rifle for removal, but it doesn't want to come out and I don't want to break the little wing thingee (for lack of a better word). Any ideas?

I will snap photos for you this weekend. The safes are so full it takes me an hour to pull everything out and two hours to put them all away.

Possibly. Let's swap some pics. I do have a bubba'ed rifle (Bubba turned it into a bottom feed box magazine rifle [no, it is not an early prototype rifle!] which also would need a repark) I bought for parts. Lips were removed on this rifle, but it is a good candidate for a LMG makeover, too.

So, do you think an import mark on a Johnson negatively effects the value (no matter how small) like it does on a Garand or M1 carbine?

The 7mm Chilean rifles all have Navy Arms import marks, so I wouldn't expect it to matter, but only a small number of .30-06 Johnsons have them.

Bet the title had you wondering!

Picked up a new rifle but the lips/guide for stripper clips is broken off so the metal is flush with the receiver. Can this be repaired? Is it worth repairing? I don't have the missing piece.

I will soon list a Chilean 7mm on GB. Not looking to get rich, so if anybody here is interested before I list it, I will entertain a reasonable offer.

It is a great looking rifle in great condition. I've never asked to get the parts checked against the log, but I am happy to provide them.

I find the (and I don't know if it is just because of my cheek placement) rear sight apertures (hole) on my Johnsons to be too small compared to the sight pictures on Garands, 1903a3s, etc.
