  3. Tom, In the past I've used a small pair of needle nose pliers which usually will work for taking apart or reassembling. Some I've had to soak in Kroil to get apart. Loctite will work try 242 loctite for a small thread threadlocker. Loctite also makes a cleaner/primer which I recommend on the part before reassembling with the 242 threadlocker. walt
  4. The bayo is a sarco repo, the scabbard appears to be real from the picturesl walt
  5. This was real along with the scabbard. walt
  6. The above numbered bayonet on gunbroker is a Sarco repro. The bayo, scabbard and slab of wood its mounted on are worth about 100 bucks not much more. walt
  7. Woody, Having talked with Ed Silva for a number of years and having two Miltech rifles in my collection. I find nothing wrong with their rifles or the folks who work for them. They produce a very good restored rifle which looks good and is very safe to shoot if you so desire. They stand behind their product. If you look at current prices for unrestored military JRs, the Miltech rifles is not a bad deal for something you want to go the range with and exercise. There are still allot of folks out there who have only seen pictures of JRs let alone actually see one operate. When I go to the range with one I've worked on I usually allow folks who come by to see it to crack off a few rounds. walt
  8. Matt, You will not be disappointed. Joe does mighty fine work. walt
  9. Gents, It's a Sarco tent peg alright. Rivet and barrel ring are the giveaway plus the shade of parkerizing. From the pictures the condition of this bayo does not come close to matching the Scabbard. For more information read my article on the Johnson Bayonets on the main site. Nice catch. You have good eyes. There are still allot of uninformed folks as far as JR's are concerned. walt
  10. Gentlemen' I could have not said it any better. My son Jason just came back last week from Iraq after a year. I'm very thankful he's home. Please keep our militarys sons and daughters in your thoughts. They have truly done a magnificint job. walt USN (ret.) 1969-1989

  12. Guys, For those who do not get the Blue Press you can go to their website www. dillionprecision.com look under read the blue press section of the website. last I looked April was the last month up there. May should be up shortly. The catalog is usually a pretty good read. walt
  13. Kilroy, Here's the skinny on your JR: Received April 9th 1942 Stock Type 2 Barrel 3027F (Barrel locking bushing should match the barrel number) Hammer Block A2370 Hammer A5709 Bolt A3923 Locking cam A4299 Firing pin B4000 Extractor A3964 Magazine 9194 Completed June 3, 1942 Transferred from JA to NPC Let us know whether or not any parts match the production log Hope this helps walt
  14. Morning Ray, Happy New Year to all. Unfortunetly Ray the production records for the "A and B" series rifles have been quite elusive for some time now. So info on your particluar rifle in not available. I've tracked down numerous leads for some time now only to find dead ends (at least here in New England and other places across the country) I know these books existed but water damage from a flood at the Johnsons home may have water logged the books for "A & B series" rifles to the point of mush. A few years ago when I scanned the entire production log for the non prefixed rifles a number of pages in this log were water damaged, but I managed to get all 10,000 rifle serial and part numbers. These scanned images cannot be altered. If this log or any part of this log were to be published it would be with concurrance of the Johnson family. walt
  15. Guys, I seriously doubt that JA ever stamped any of their rifles with any firing proof marks or other military markings other than what the factory stamped. Viewing the production films nowhere does it show any (P or US) stampings being added to either the barrel or the receiver. An interesting note tho was why was this reciever and radiator sleeve both marked with the US stamping. The production films are pretty explict in showing starting from raw materials, production, proofing, test firing, and shipping of Johnson rifles and machine guns. If these were legit markings from JA they would or should be the same size and shape and design of the other letters and digits. Are these markings legit from JA? I say no I these markings were added by somebody else other than JA. walt
  16. R, Only the first 2k or so rifles ever had the bolt catch. JA decided to eliminate this little device due the chances of it being lost during field stripping once the rear crosspin is removed and the buttstock and receiver have been seperated. It's sole function in life was to let the operator know when the last shot was fired by holding the bolt in the return to battery position. So if your rifle does not have this little device don't fret. It will still operate fine without it. There is a good chance it may have never had one to begin with. From the existing production log none of the recorded rifles indicate whether or not there was ever a bolt catch installed as they were not numbered. The only identifying number to indicate the bolt catch was #21 on the drawings in the rifle manual and Type "R" company poster. walt
  17. Rod, When you have a chance Please send photos. I'm always getting emils from someone looking for a JR. I can be contacted thru the site. Thanks Walt
  18. Here's the skinny, Received 1/22/42 Barrel 6880E Hammer Block 3644 Hammer 6870 Bolt 2584 Locking Cam 5230 Firing Pin 4355 Extractor 2974 Magazine A2429 Completed 1/28/42 Transferred to NPC Walt
  19. Guys, Guys, Let's not get worked up over this. The sky is not falling and the fat lady ain't squealing yet. Granted I don't know what's going to happen in the near future. The new monkeys coming into Washington have got bigger problems to solve. Will they accomplish anything worthwhile? Promises were made to get elected but will they be fulfilled probably not. Congress can or will be changed in a couple years and the pres becomes a lame duck. I'm not about to start burying anything in the woods yet. Hold off on for the time being on buying the 8" pvc unless of course you are doing a plumbing job. walt
  20. Art, I seem to remember this one from a year or two ago. The reason I remember it the sides of the rear stock being flat. I remember the wood being in much better shape. Looks as someone beat it with a hammer or some other type of round object. Guess they wanted that seasoned. Too bad cause the wood was in pretty good shape. Just needed a couple of laminated cheek pieces and a good finish. Too bad The barrel looks to be new or reparked barrel. I did not read the advertisement for this JR. I believe this rifle has been through the auction site before. walt
  21. Guys, is anyone out there interested in getting a JR mouse pad? The mouse pad in my office is looking pretty ragged these days. I want to get a new one but can't find anything out there I like. So I'm looking at making ones with the JR on them. I don't know what the cost is yet but the set-up is 70 bucks. If I get enough interest I'll have them done. What do you guys think? walt
  22. Woof, Unfortunately information on prefixed rifle S/Ns has not surfaced. All the S/Ns we have are for pre-prefixed rifles. walt
