  2. Tuck, Your email address is not working. I keep getting kicked back. You have my office number. Please call me at your convience. I'm in Tuesday thru Fri 0630 to 1700hrs. Thanks Walt
  3. Guys. All ordered shirts have gone out first part of the week. You should be getting them by first of next week or already have them. we are working on a couple of Johnson projects which I think will be pretty cool. Stay tune. Any other shirt orders get them to me. Short sleeve shirts are doable. I think I'm going to go back to the original embroider. His prices were better a bit longer in time to make them but just as good if not a bit better and a better quality shirt. Thanks walt
  4. To all who ordered Johnson Shirts. Then shirts are done, I have them and will ship this weekend. Final price is 39.00 with shipping is included. Change will be sent back with the shirt. Thanks Walt
  5. Guys, I have a couple orders for Johnson rifle blue denim shirts. Anyone interested? walt
  6. Guys, This night shift is over after tonight. The Johnsons in the safes are yelling at me to take them to the range. (it's been some time) I just got some fresh .06 and want to use. Shipping has gone up so it's included in the price along with your name embroidered on the shirt. Anything larger than XL will cost extra. 43.00 per should cover this. Should be between 3 to 4 weeks until the shirts are sent out after ordering. Those who have got shirts before seem to be satified. I haven't had any complaints. They are in Blue demin, Button down collars and cuffs. No provisions for cuff links Really nice shirts. Please let me know what size you want and if a name is to placed above the right pocket (no flaps over the pockets) Art I like the idea for short sleevs I do believe it is doable. Send your orders to: Thanks Walt Liss 55 Miller Rd Preston CT 06365
  7. Matt, I may be wrong, but I believe you can or are allow use your JR if in military configuration to shoot in the Garand matchs. I believe a few years ago there were several gents who shot in one of those matches. I think they did pretty well. walt
  8. Guys, I remember back in the 1982 time frame that the Johnson rifles were selling from 275.00 to 325.00 according to gun books from that era. A Winfield sporter was selling for around 95.00 to 150.00 bucks. I found my first one back in 1985 in a hardware store in Groton CT. when they were selling for around 400.00 for a military configured rifle. walt
  9. Tom, Rather then drive the front sight off may I suggest a small amount of heat applied evenly to the sight. It doesn't take allot of heat to expand it and get it moving off the taper. Avoid getting the barrel or sight cherry red. A small amount of heat will not destroy the barrels finish. The front sight will expand rather quickly. Once expanded it should pull off. The same goes for installing a new front sight. Make sure you wear gloves and safety glasses or goggles when you do this. This suggestion works very well I've used this for bayo lug and front sights in the past. One more thing check the height of the front sight blade. I've found front sights with different blade heights. I've seen differences in blade heights by as much as 0.103 inch to as little as 0.060 inch. Don't know how your rifle shot before hand whether it shot high or low. Check blade height. You may have to add or remove material to get your sight back. Have fun! walt
  10. Dave, This rifle is a definite collectible. Did you purchase it? If not what is or was the shops price? Without taking this rifle apart and inspecting the condition of all internal parts it would be hard to set a price. The stocks appear to be original but without seeing the whole rifle again I can only speculate on their finish. What's on the end of the buttstock? Non prefixed rifles and "A and B" series are just as desirable. The only thing I can think of would that would separate them is having the internal part numbers match the production log for the "A/B" series rifles. The production logs for the A/B series rifles has not been located as of yet. For the sling it certainly appears to be aged and could be the sling that has been on this rifle for a period of time. Again without seeing this rifle as a whole it would be hard for me to comment on the finish. The picture you took of the rear sight assembly reveals the windage knob appears to be two different colors the same goes for the magazine outer shellappears to be different color to the receiver and barrel assembly. Lift up the rear sight assembly and see if it was drilled for a scope mount if it was or had been and is now plugged then the price should be reduced considerably. Was this barrel ever crowned? It could be the picture that gives this impression. This rifle may have all original Johnson internal parts but it I think it would be doubtful if any of the part numbers would match the production log if we had them. Most of the non prefixed rifles I have inspected did not have any parts matching the production log. It amazes me as to how people can ask the prices they do without backing up their prices with documentation saying this rifle matches the production log. Then again there are alot of folks out there who know nothing of these rifles. One cannot go by auction site prices because of the absurdity of these prices. Some of these auction sites appear to be for folks with really deep pockets. walt
  11. Folks, Please give a moment of thanks when you sitdown for your Thanksgiving dinner this coming Thursday. Set a place at your table for all our Sons, Daughters, Moms, Dads and family friends now serving in the military who will miss being at home for the Holidays. I know what it's like not being able to get home for them. I've been there many times. Have a Safe and Happy Thanksgiving! Walt USN (Ret) 1969-1989
  12. Bud, If the bolt stop is such a problem, then remove it from your rifle. Your rifle will work just fine without it. walt
  13. Guys, What I was refering to was the drawing program used for the cycling of the action. I'm very much aware that the example used was an M1 Garand. I guess I should have clarified myself. Sorry for any misunderstanding. walt
  14. Guys I'll say this much for those who did this. Very impressive. Anyone know who he/she or they are or what drawing programs they used? walt
  15. Guys, Don’t get yourselves into a tizzy over this. Johnson only used the bolt stop in the first 2,000 rifles or so. Which rifles had these stops is unknown. These items were not numbered and the production records we have do not indicate which rifles had them. If your rifle does not have a bolt stop it’s no big deal. These stops whether or not they were installed will neither add nor detract from the value of your rifle. The bolt stop is activated by the rotary magazine internals on the last shot by locking it open or when the bolt was pulled rearward. The rifle will function perfectly without it. The bolt stop was dropped because it was thought parts could be lost during field stripping and cleaning along with other small components of the rifle such as the cross pin(s). If the stop was not seated properly in the rifles hammer block frame the rear crosspin could not be installed making the rifle inop at the most inopertune moment. walt

  19. Ridge, 10:30 am I can only think of one tightly wound spring on the JR. But none with a 1/4 inch length as you described. I've never taken the bolt stop plate plunger apart nor the detent ball springs of the rear sight adjustment knob or the mainspring buffer tube assembly so I know whether or not these springs are finely wound (I would not think so.) Never found a reason to disassemble them. The only tightly wound I can think of is the main spring for the rotary magazine. Sometimes the loading door paddle spring steel has been substituted for a wound spring. Most of the removable springs on the JR are course wound with the exception of the magazine main spring. Field stripping for usually does not require the total disassembly of every component of the rifle. Next time should you feel the need to do this I suggest laying out the assemblies in the order you disassemble, clean, then reassemble. Doing this keeps left over parts (if any) to an absolute minimum. I think the spring you described may have come from something else and not from the JR. walt

  23. Guys, All the paid shirts went out today. You should receive them by the end of the week. I've delivered most of the local shirts. Only a few remain to be delivered. Please let me know when you get them. Anyone else wants one let me know. walt
  24. Turbo, I received a fair amount of emails from folks who wanted shirts. My reply was send a check for the amount of a shirt and shipping. Most did some didn't. I've posted my address and the prices in an earlier post. Money talks and emails well you get the picture. walt
  25. Chuck, Yes I can do that but the cost would be about 6 to 8 bucks more. Harvard Square does not make a shirt that size. It will be from a different shirt manufacturer same style but a bit darker in color. This should be the same shirt I had made for Ed. walt
