  1. No "Click"? Sounds like the hammer didn't drop. That, or the hammer didn't reset...might be an issue with your trigger group. Doubt it would be the main spring since the bolt cycled, ejected spent case, and successfully loaded another cartridge.
  2. I'd like to bring this post back up. Aside from my Johnson, I also own a Garand rifle. And for those that don't own a Garand, it is a huge no-no to shoot commercial or slow burning powder ammo out of a Garand. Owners with experience shooting commercial ammo have found their op rods getting bent. And not all surplus ammo is safe. There are two types of Greek surplus, HXP and Olympic. Greek Olympic ammo is slow burning and hot as well. Is the Johnson also sensitive to the type of ammo shot? Is it ok to shoot slow burning ammo?...cause I have a few hundred rounds of this stuff. I'd rather waste this stuff in a rifle then in the trash.
  3. Excellent job Barry! Always thought if any one has ever competed in 3 gun with the Johnson. haha Im sure everyone had their eye on you and got a kick out of it.
  4. The Assembly[2007] is a Chinese war movie set in 1948 China that features our JSAR. There are two JSARs used in the movie. One by the units designated marksman/sniper(Jiang), and another scoped JSAR is used by their enemy. The designated sniper soldier is called upon a lot during the battle scenes, so the JSAR is heavily featured in this film. The movie I would say is good enough to watch. The Chinese claim it to be their version that rivals and can compete with Saving Private Ryan...but I wouldn't say so. The first half of the movie is war, the second half takes place 10 years later when war is over and the surviving officer tries to gain recognition for his lost and forgotten unit. Considering there are hardly any films that feature the JSAR, I purchased the movie in blu-ray anyways. I'd give the movie 7 out of 10 stars. http://www.imfdb.org/index.php/Assembly_%28Ji_jie_hao%29 Screen shots: Battle Sceen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYP0tXJj8gg
  5. The film takes place during the civil war in China between New Liberation Army and the KMT in 1948. Not sure on which specific battle or region. It also goes in partially on the Korean war. FYI also, the film is shown from the communist perspective. I purchased my copy from eBay. You can get the regular DVD for about $10.
  6. My JSARs rear sight assembly moves to freely(side to side). Is there a way to secure the sight on to the receiver? Please let me know.
  7. M48Tanker the rifle looks great! Where did you get the new stock? Mr Scott had a repro metal plate for the retaining pin for my stock...but that was a year or so ago. Not sure if he still has any. And yah I agree the new slings sticks out a bit. hehe I bought a Turner M1907 sling that looked like that as well. Looked too new. I hated it. But I looked around the web and found ways to darken and soften the leather sling. Ended up oiling mine, and went from a light tan like yours to a nice dark chocolate color. Now it looks of age...but still not so beat up, cracked, or stained...but I like it.
  8. Thanks a bunch Mr Scott! I'll give that a shot.
  9. Does anybody have an easier less marring way of removing the retaining pins for both the Hammer Block and the front Magazine Housing? Mine seem to be an extremely tight fit. And prying them off with a small flat head screw driver is damaging the pin heads as well as marred a couple places on the receiver. Can any one recommend an easier way of removing these pins?
  10. What type of parkerizing is closest to the original parkerizing? Manganese(Dark) or Zinc(Light Grey)?? Or what type of parkerizing does Joseph Scott offer? Please let me know.
  11. Mr Scott, the black oxide finish is interesting. Is this similar to the black finish on the early WWI 1911 Colt pistols?
  12. Thanks Mr Scott! I really appreciate it!!
  13. Wow! Very nice! Can you post a pic with the magazine in the rifle?
  14. Woah! That is cheap! Wish I bid too. hehe
  15. Great story! Thanks for sharing these pieces of history! I live 5 mins away from Camp Elliott. It is actually very small. I drive by it every single day being it is right off one of the main freeways. Some of the old buildings still stand and certain sections are still in use...most being unused land, due to it was once a bombing/firing range back in the WWII days. My brother was actually stationed there back in the mid 90s and some buildings(new and old) are haunted by old Marines. Interesting and great to know the Johnson rifles were tested there by Marines. Also at the MCRD here in San Diego they have a museum with a JSAR on display....been meaning to go there to check out some Marine Corp history and the JSAR. Maybe it was a leftover from Camp Elliott. Maybe your paramarine is one of the guys in one of these photos.
  16. How much did it sell for? I have a housing forsale. Let me know if you still need one, and ill send you pics.
  17. Well, I doubt I can afford any of the original +$100 slings selling on eBay and everywhere else. Plus there are not that many trade shows down here in San Diego. So I opt to just buy a repro leather sling. Im looking at the Turner sling right now. Which one should I get? They have a NM 1907 sling in different sizes(50 and 54). Also which color is most original?..black or tan? Turner also offers a standard Military 1907 sling(no size optional). Which is the best one for the Johnson? Please let me know. Thank you!
  18. Is it possible to do a trigger job on a Johnson? The trigger on mines is long and creepy. TIA!
  19. Can somebody let me know where I can get a firing pin?
  20. Check out this Johnson/Garand hybrid rifle. Amazing! Now thats the best of both worlds! This rifle is housed at the Springfield Armory Museum.
  21. Hi Tom, Thanks for the reply. Yes please give us more info. I do not have the book you mentioned. Im one of those members who is not to savvy on correctness of this rifle. Thanks!
  22. Thanks guys! Appreciate all your help. I'll be sure to let them know.
  23. Hello all! Can some one give me instructions on how to remove the barrel latch assembly. I have Joseph Scotts DVD here, but he does not go over this section. Thank you!!
  24. Thanks for the response Mr Scott! Really appreciate it. I didn't know the latch was so tricky to take apart. I thought it would be easy after driving out the pin. The reason for me wanting to disassemble the latch assembly is because I would like to send the receiver out stripped so it can be reparkerized(mine is blued). Can they still be reparkerized with out having to disassemble the latch assembly? Will the parkerizing have any negative impact on the plunger and springs? Please let me know. TIA!
