About Me
I was born in Crescent City CA a little over 100 years after my Great Great Great Grandfather helped found++ it. He came over the Oregon Trail to the Gold Fields of the Illinois Valley in the 1840s and was soon a Hotel owner in the bustling outpost of Crescent City. My parents had a Ranch both Dairy and Beef, and bulb fields. I worked for them from the moment I could walk. My cousins, brothers, and I started duck hunting on our ranches shorelines on the south end of Lake Earl in our pre-teens. Later they owned a Feed and Hardware store. At 14 I went to work for the City of Crescent City and got access to unlimited 38 Special target wadcutters. I have been shooting, reloading, and instructing ever since.
As a teen I went Commercial fishing, and that evolved into 10 years as a merchant marine, all in all I have spent 16 years on the oceans, I earned A Third Officer (Mate) License Unlimited tonnage, Unlimited Oceans at 36 years of age, not through schooling, but up through the hawse pipe.
Then I did 20 years as a CA Correctional Peace Officer at Pelican Bay State Prison. For 4 years of my retirement I watched my oldest grandson while my daughter got her career established. Now I spend my time in my shop. I have a Bridgeport Mill, and two lathes, a Sheldon and an Atlas. I have a single shot billet upper of my own design in the works, and am almost finished with a conversion of a Remington Rolling Block Number 4 to 32 Smith and Wesson from 32 rimfire.
I have lived a life of adventure, I worked in the Chuckchi Sea, Canoed on the Yukon, Climbed numerous CA 14teeners, and Mt Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, A couple years ago I brought a 70 something foot steel shrimp trawler from Louisiana to Crescent City via the Panama Canaol. I also owned my own steel 42 foot salmon troller for a few years. My favorite activity is Elk hunting.
