Anything on SN# 9458?

6 posts in this topic

Hello, I just received my JSAR Today, overall very happy with it. The barrel has been reparked, but looks good. The only section I don't know about is a slight ring around the left side laminated area on the stock that makes it look slightly dislodged... Should I leave it like that? Sand it  Suggestions?

Thanks!

If you are worried about the "laminated" piece on the stock, don't....that is normal

Is it normal for there to be a physical gap though? It's like .05" between the end of the insert and the stock (it makes sortof a valley between the two)...

Thanks.

I don't know about anybody else, but I can't tell anything from the second picture.

Take the butt plate off and describe to us the holes that you see.

The laminate pieces are much more common (in my experience) than finding a stock without them.

I suppose the laminated piece could shrink more than the rest of the stock over 60+ years leaving the gap, but I can't really get a feel for it based on the photos.

Rather than shrink, IMHO, I would suspect minor chipping....as this laminated piece is very thin at that point, and after 60+ years of handling, I would suspect the pieces chipped off.
