Sorry, but I was not aware that any were plastic dip coated in the '40's.

Me neither Art, I was surprised to finally see another one like my bayonet.  It’s just a temporary coating, and needs to be removed before use.  I have no idea if it was a common thing for the johnson bayonets, but I do recall seeing this temporary protective coating on other things when I was young kid.  Mine definitely has some aging to it, and it appears to be the same as the one on eBay.

Guys I suggest look at the section I wrote on bayonets some time ago this should give you all the info needed for the Johnson bayonet should one decide to buy one.

Walt ...thanks for the reminder. I have/had previously read your info, and this as well, and did not remember any notes that bayonets had ever been dipped in anything. Camstuff, that was why I posted as I did earlier.  My suspicions is that was just a trick used by someone to make potential buyers think that the bayonet was 'unissued', an attempt to extract more money!
