M1941 Buffer?

3 posts in this topic

Hello, all,

Is there any way to tell whether the buffer assembly is present in my assembled M1941 rifle? I'd like to avoid taking the end cap off of the recoil spring tube to check.

I notice that if I remove the butt plate and stick a piece of stiff wire in the hole in the center of the plug, the wire goes in and stops after a couple of inches or so. Also, looking through the tiny hole in the end cap with a bright light, I can see spring coils that go all the way to the interior end of the cap.

Thanks much,

Howard

Just a thought for you. For my piece of mind, I would want to remove it and inspect it to make sure it’s complete and functioning properly, while at the same time you can inspect and clean and lubricate the tube, the buffer and also the spring inside the buffer.  The inside of the tube itself has been known to rust and hinder the recoil operation a bit.

From your wire probe inspection, it does sound like felt the end of the buffer and also see the internal spring. Hope this helps you Howard!
