Does anyone have any idea how many rifles Winfield molested?

ArtR would probably be the one to give an educated guess. Too many, IMO.

Per Bruce Canfield, in his book, Johnson Rifles and Machine Guns (Mobray Publishing) pp. 217-223, some 16,000 rifles were purchased by various entities which finally became Winfield Arms. How many of those were actually made into complete rifles has not truly been determined.

As can be seen by some of these early Winfield ads (one unknown date, other 1954), Winfield sold both military, modified, and sporter versions. Even some of the military versions may have had some cosmetic changes, if you read the fine print.

In a 1979 ad, Navy Arms was selling 7mm versions.

I thought the price at the worlds fair was rather extravagant for the time as well.

$1,000.00 in 1939 was a handsome ransom for sure!!!!!!!

Handsom randsom for sure, approximately $22,000 when adjusted for inflation, I think the addage (buy the gun not the story) applied then as well as now.
