did the johnson stock have any kind of proof marks, etc. on them like the garands? What were they and where were they located?

There are various number stamps on the INSIDE of some of the wood pieces, but there were no stamps or marks on the visible parts of the wood.

Periodically, you will see some rifles with "P" proof marks on the underside of the grip, BUT these are fakes put on by folks trying to claim some sort of USGI provenance.
