Posted December 30, 2007 · Report post Hi guys i just joined this fine site. I recently acquired a 41 JSAR ser 8136 from my father. I have a decent ( I thought) knowlege of firearms so i went to the field stripping section of this site. After curiosity of what was possibly contained inside the buttplate, (it was empty) i unscrewed and removed the spring assembly contained inside. I thought i put it back correctly, but now the rifle wont cycle at all. Can anyone give me a suggestion on what im doing wrong or how to fix this? Any other info anyone could give me on this ser# would also be appreciated. And no i wont go unscrewing stuff in the future 8) Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Posted December 30, 2007 · Report post When you reassembled the spring did you ensure that it was straight in the tube and did not kink? If the spring is not correctly fitted it will foul the action.Also did you put the recoil stop (located behind the small cover at the rear of the receiver) in the correct way? If you put that in upside down that can stop the rearward action of the bolt. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Posted December 31, 2007 · Report post Jim after reading your response i removed it again and i think what happened is last time i put it in the rifle was upside down, holding it right side up let it seat properly and now the action works fine. I havent totally broken the rifle down yet but inspection of the bolt reveals a match to the serial you gave me! Thanks so much for your help and quick responses! I look forward to much correspondence with the members of this site, i spent all day today reading the entire history of these boards and am more excited than ever to hold this piece of history, and how exceptional is it that yourself, the author of the "book", and even a member of the johnson family frequent this site...incredible! You all are an amazing help to those of us hungry to find out all we can about this rifle. I cant order the book fast enough, or get that bayonet, or research slings ect.
