  1. Any info on B 2959? After years of 'looking' I finally found one. Thanks Steve T
  2. On the Wehrmacht-Awards.com site, Vitts found a rifle mag and 7 lmg mags and is looking to get rid of them. If anyone needs them, check out that forum. http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/forums/sho...ad.php?t=334938 Steve
  3. Walt, I just want to say thanks for taking the time to teach me. Several months ago, I posted a "reality check" for a Johnson that was being offered to me for sale. Before spending a considerable sum on somehting I knew nothing about, I needed help from someone who knew these things. I had never disassembled one, nor did I know know exactly what to look for in a weapon of 'original' condition. I was referred to Walt for that reality check by another forum member. I'm glad that I started with this forum. After trading e mails and phone calls, when I finally got my hands on the Johnson I was promised, Walt invitied me to his home to show me a few things about the Johnson, and provide that honest 2nd opinion of a gun I knew nothing about. My son & I spent about 6 hours with Walt today, and I can honestly say, he was anything other than boring. He showed me what to do, let me make some of my own mistakes, and pointed out the idiocyncrancies of the rifle. Then we looked at his collection, and spent a considerable amount of time looking at period home movies ( in colour, no less) from the Johnson factory and field trials vs. the Garand & 03. Even saw the original factory poduction log books, with all the entries for the components. And I now have a list of the serial #'s that belong to the rifles I brought over. And I think I could have stayed another 6 hours. I feel like I just touched the tip of the iceberg of his expertise! BTW, I'm returning the Johnsons back to it's owner, and still looking forward to returning to see Walt the next time an 'original' Johnson crosses my doorstep. Steve Tyliszczak
  4. Thanks Walt. As soon as I'm able to make arrangements, I'll contact you. And thanks to the rest of you guys for sending me in the right direction.
  5. OK, so you're not telling me I'm not completely insane...at least that makes me feel a little better. Good advice, I'll bring my camera and take some pictures to post...and if the guy wants the deal done too quick, well I've lived without one for years, I'm sure another will come along. I'm trying to set it up so that my friend will be able to take it home from his frined, then I'll have some time to check it out. Anybody on this board in Southern Connecticut who might be able to offer a professional opinion? That is, if all this really comes to pass. Thanks for the advice.
  6. I've wanted a JR for years, and now I have to look at one next weekend. I think I've read every post on this site, but I haven't gotten the book yet. OK, this is one of those stories where I put the word out and a friend of a friend has one. I haven't seen it yet, but I'm told it's #8700, is all original, and has good honest wear with a 'decent' bore, a nice greenish blue to the metal and not piited or reblued. The stock is dark, but would clean up well. Again, this is what I'm told! His asking price is $5500, which would be the most I've every spent on a military arm...but I want one! Am I crazy??? ps. don't tell the wife. Steve
