  1. Seems a little "Reckless" to me... Seriously I like it. Where did you find it? Congratulations!!
  2. Congratulations on finding Phil Sharpe's tome. Every hand loader should have a copy and read it...often. The Lovell 22/3000 and the improved (by M.S. Risley with an assist by Harvey Donaldson) 22/3000 R-2 Lovell were pretty popular in the 1930's though the introduction of the 222 Remington in 1950. Another good book with a lot of historical information as well as good data (dated a bit) is "Pet Loads" by Ken Waters, another must have book for hand loaders. Enjoy!
  3. Joe I am going miss you at the show. I will also miss stopping by your table and having one of your wife's sandwiches! Best wishes and prayers to you.
  4. Tulsa show April 2&3, anybody planning on attending? As always I like to meet Johnson Rifle fans and visit. I'll be there all weekend. Doug
  5. We're just a few days out. Is ANYONE going to the Tulsa show??? Message me if you don't want to post publicly, would like to meet fellow enthusiasts. Does Mr. Scott still set up at the show?
  6. I sent an email to Navy Arms sometime back to ask about the importation of the Chilean rifles. I never heard back. I would think they would have the records for the rifles they brought back? Does anyone know if today's Navy Arms Co. is in anyway related to the Navy Arms Co. of the 1970's - 1980's. So many of the old arms manufacturers and/or firearms related companies exist today in name only. It seems irresponsible for RIA to state that rifle serial numbered B1483 is a Chilean contract rifle and have no documentation to support the claim. Is this how a "reputable" auction house does business?
  7. Thank you for having another look. As you stated we can never know. It's odd to me with the numbers for magazines all over the place how mine got a magazine number one digit off from what's shown in the ledger. It doesn't bother me, just a mystery! Best regards. Doug
  8. She's a beauty! Congratulations and hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine!
  9. Yes I did. The ledger showed Magazine #A1436 and my magazine is A1435. All other parts were correct. I have always wondered if the ledger was in error (gasp!) or if in fact my magazine had been swapped out or mixed up with another. It's odd that it's one digit off but there you have it.
  10. I messaged the seller on the site and their reply was that the barrel does not have the Navy Arms stamp. My Chilean rifle (I had it checked here for original numbers) has the Navy Arms stamp on bottom of barrel and it's my understanding that all of them reimported by Navy Arms has this same stamp. I think approximately 900 rifles were made for Chile and Navy Arms brought almost all of them back into the U.S. in the late 1970's or early 1980's. Below is the link to the thread about my rifle and Dr. Alpert posted some Navy Arms ads from November 1979 listing the Chilean rifles for sale. http://johnsonautomatics.com/messageboard/index.php?/topic/2215-johnson-rifle-serial-4446/#comment-8772
  11. Am I correct in thinking that the 7mm's were all brought back to the U.S. by Navy Arms? If legitimate should this barrel have the Navy Arms stamp on the bottom of the barrel? If so I can't make it out in the pictures.
  12. I did not know how to do this, thanks!
  13. Neil, I sent you a PM regarding a barrel meeting your requirements.
  14. Hello all, is anybody heading to the Tulsa gun show the weekend of 11-12 November? I'm not sure yet if I'm going to make it or not. There is always a lot of looking to be done. Doug
  15. Just wondering if anyone is going to Tulsa show in April to set up or just to go and look and visit. Joe Scott is usually there and I always enjoy visiting with him. Anyone else? Doug
  16. The serial # on the pictured rifle is listed in Bruce Canfield's "Johnson's Rifles and Machine Guns" in table 3, on page 249 as being one of 23 transferred to the Marine Corps March 26, 1942. The source for this information is identified as the" Johnson Automatics Manufacturing Company, Records of Receipts and Transfers of Johnson Semi-Automatic Rifles." Is the bar story reasonable? Who knows.
  17. Mr. Alpert, It is odd to me that the Chilean rifles possess all of the attributes that would normally bring a premium in price for a military arm (rarity, condition, and originality) yet they are not as desirable and in fact do not sell higher. When I bought this rifle Mr. Joe Scott told me this same thing. I took it by his table at Tulsa and got some pointers on various aspects of servicing and shooting. I go to the Tulsa show at least once a year and I make it a point to stop and see him. I will add that he always has been very gracious in answering questions. A very nice guy and a wealth of knowledge! I think that at some point people will wake up and the Chilean rifles will get the respect they deserve. Of course I'm a little biased in my opinion as this is the only Johnson rifle I own
  18. Hello to forum, been some time since I was here but Mr. Pullen helped me bring my profile up to date and I have rekindled my interest in Johnson Automatics by purchasing a Johnson Automatics Military Ammunition Chart broadside (or poster) at the recent Tulsa show. I have the rifle serial numbered 4446. I purchased it 4 or 5 years ago and it has the 7 x 57 barrel with the Navy Arms legend on bottom side. The receiver is marked 30-06. The bolt has the number 8513 on it and the bottom of the lug on the barrel collar (chamber end) is numbered 9143E. I would appreciate any information on the serial number that can be provided from the factory ledger. I did have a question on the caliber marking on the receiver. I have seen specimens purported to be Chilean contract rifles with the 30-06 marking xxxxx'd out on the receiver. Does anyone know if this normal? Also, in reading Mr. Canfield's book I learned that the Chilean rifles were purchased directly from Johnson Automatics. My rifle has the Dutch star on receiver and the Cranston mark in the triangle? Would this be correct for a Chilean rifle or should they be absent on the rifle purchased by Chile? Anxiously awaiting replies, thanks in advance. Doug
  19. Curiosity got the better of me and I went back and double checked. My magazine is in fact numbered A1435. So, all parts original to rifle with exception of magazine.
  20. Mr. Alpert, Thank you for checking and posting these numbers. All of the numbers on parts match your list with exception of magazine. I had A1435 written down but I may have not looked close enough (my eyes don't work as well as they used to!). This is really good news to know my rifle is correct.
  21. Thanks Wayne, is your caliber marking x'd out or does it say 30-06? Doug
  22. Mr. Scott, My thoughts and prayers are with you and yours. Doug
  23. Hello all, I am a new member here on the forum but have had a life-long love affair with the M1941 though I have never owned one. I am looking to rectify this soon. The Tulsa, OK big gunshow is coming up in November and I was curious if any forum members planned on attending. I would enjoy meeting and talking about Johnson rifles if possible and enhancing my knowledge. My email address is in the profile section. Thanks for the forum, lots of good reading here. Regards.
  24. Mr. Scott, thank you and I will come sit a while as I'm sure I will be tired. Sounds like you have some interesting guns. See you there and I'm looking forward to it.
