  1. Hello: I did this when i built my Pattern 2 DROR. Using a sporterized 41 rec. (bubba cut off the ventilated jacket section). With some help from Brian it all went together rather well. So yes it will fit with a little work. Its kinda miserable to shoot with the big steel butt plate but looks good. You just have to love it for what it is. Ryche
  2. Aiden: Check with Brian, if its coming from him you know it will be good. Ryche
  3. Echo to both Bruce and Art. I would be interested in a repro sling, especially marked as such, if any are to be done. Ryche
  4. ArtR: Thanks for that article. That cleared up alot of questions i have had for a while after seeing guys use those gauges at gunshows. I always used the bullet test at the muzzle myself. If the muzzle swallows the bullet then its not that its bad, it just may not be very accurate. On some of my collector pieces that doesn't matter much as i may not shoot them anyway. Anyway great article. and thanks. Ryche
  5. I believe that some of the misconception comes from the customizable AR15/M4 style rifles. There is no wood on these style light rifles but o so many attachments...OR Furniture. And as we all know they are the potatohead of the light rifle world. Ryche
  6. I have been thinking about this ...and it wouldn't be a bad place to start for an LMG build. Figure the mag housing (depending on how badly screwed with) at say $1000 to $1500. The barrel at $700 to $800 easy. Partly modified Rec. at $1000 your already at $3000 plus there with several hundred dollars worth of other parts. I would consider giving $3000 to $3500 for it in parts alone. A reasonable LMG kit missing the mag housing (as most are,,Bipod as well) But your on your way to a reasonably priced semi LMG. Ryche
  7. I have seen this once before... (may have been this one) 8 or so years ago at the SAR show in Phoenix AZ.looks ridiculous in person. And just WHY???????? If they have done the same horrors to the mag housing as mine the rear hanger has been cut off. and the top rear lip of the housing has been shortened. It is possible to replace it BUT you need a very good machinist and it aint cheep. Ryche
  8. wtb

I have the loop but not the lug that attaches it to the receiver. Not sure how much you need? Ryche
  9. Kennethg: In some of my research it was said that the military guys who did use the rifle didn't care for the hold open device and often got rid of it during cleaning. This would be easy enough as its mostly a drop in piece. And as i've heard much like the bi-pod on the LMG. It added extra weight and was seldom used. Easy to remove and easy to loose If you feel you have to have a hold open, someone on this board may have one for sale. I would have to look to see if i still have one as i may have sold my last one. I never put one in my military model but i did, just for giggles, put one in my Winfield sporter model. Ryche
  10. You will have to pull the The rifle down to field stripped to see if its there. There are instructions for this on this board. In my experience most militarys don't have them and they are not really necessary. If you didn't have one and could find one (sometimes tough to find) They can be expensive and sometimes have to be fitted. Ryche
  11. I have one i built specifically to be a Winfield Deluxe sporter. I haven't run into to many out in Arizona. The few i do see are all Military or refurb to Military. Mr. Johnson was put together after i acquired a blued Rec.With some parts trading help from a couple of guys i on the board i picked up a really nice sporter barrel and a very nice set of deluxe furn. to fill him out.The mag housing is painted a nice semi gloss black. The FT. sight now has a hood and i recently got a Johnson Automatics muzzle break for him. Not been tapped for a scope but the rear sight is from a Military rifle. with a recent mainspring replacement (Thanks Joe) He is a really nice shooter and fairly accurate. As spoken of in another thread all of the rifles in my Johnson collection have names and or ranks. It was easier to discuss the projects with my father by naming them Ryche.
  12. I'm going to disagree as well... out here in AZ. the market is huge with the hunters as well. Granted your hard core gotta use a( insert popular American brand) guys are still prominent but the Milsurp market will often beat them out. Oh and we have A LOT of cowboy collectors as well , Some of their stuff could be considered Milsurp from the 1800's i suppose Like what i think Imgone was getting at is it might be kind of a regional thing. Ryche
  13. Hey Welcome to the site. Even with only a couple matching pieces its still a good looking one. And if it shoots well no big deal...:) Ryche
  14. Ed: If you go on Youtube and look up Forgotten weapons 44 Johnson light machinegun you will find another of Ian's videos about it as well. He also did one on my DROR a couple years back. Also at the end of this posted video there will come up a bunch of thumbnail pictures linking to those videos. Ryche
  15. Message to Joe Scott: Joe do you still have new made main springs available? I sent you a P.M. but figured i would try this way as well. I need 2 mainsprings. Has the price changed? and is you address still the same? Also need to know shipping to Arizona. Thanks buddy Ryche
  16. Ed: should those things come to pass i would defiantly use those names Ryche
  17. Ed: No question, my father and i named the ones in our collection for easier discussion. Mr. Johnson is the post war commercial, Pvt. Johnson is the war time 41 rifle, Col. Johnson is the replica para carbine, Gen. Johnson is the semi JLMG, and Rabbi Johnson is the Israeli Pat. 2 DROR. Mostly just for fun, but also made discussion easier when most of them were still kits without having to go pull out the kits. Ryche Hey Art: You got it, as the "family" grew it was easier for ID especially when hunting parts
  18. HE (Mr. Johnson) What i call it to differentiate from the others (pvt. Johnson, Col. Johnson etc.) Shot beautifully That new spring really helped. I was kind of amazed at how accurate the commercial barrel was, I suppose i just never thought about it . That it should be very accurate for being a deer rifle or such. Anyway it was a good shoot, empty ammo cans and no broke guns Ryche
  19. Joe: They came in yesterday. Just installed one in my commercial Johnson. So now its going out this weekend for the 1st time in a LONG time YAH!! Thanks again i really appreciate it. Ryche
  20. Joe: Did you receive my check for the mainsprings? Just want to make sure it got there. thanks Ryche
  21. He also says Matching and correct... HHHHMMMM Ryche
  22. Hey Guys:::: Sarco is showing a full page of parts newly avlb. Mag parts incl.the door spring, Bolt, cocking handles, bolt extension parts etc. HEADS UP..... Ryche
  23. Thanks for the quick link Art. I don't know how to do those things but i wanted to get the word out. Ryche
  24. Joe: Checks in the mail yesterday. Thanks again. Ryche
  25. Tom: You are looking for the rear cross pin with the top hat? Which recoil stop screws are you looking for front or rear? And by bolt catch do you mean hold open? Possible maybe on some or all. Ryche
