Kennethg: In some of my research it was said that the military guys who did use the rifle didn't care for the hold open device and often got rid of it during cleaning. This would be easy enough as its mostly a drop in piece. And as i've heard much like the bi-pod on the LMG. It added extra weight and was seldom used. Easy to remove and easy to loose If you feel you have to have a hold open, someone on this board may have one for sale. I would have to look to see if i still have one as i may have sold my last one. I never put one in my military model but i did, just for giggles, put one in my Winfield sporter model. Ryche

You will have to pull the The rifle down to field stripped to see if its there. There are instructions for this on this board. In my experience most militarys don't have them and they are not really necessary. If you didn't have one and could find one (sometimes tough to find) They can be expensive and sometimes have to be fitted. Ryche

I have one i built specifically to be a Winfield Deluxe sporter. I haven't run into to many out in Arizona. The few i do see are all Military or refurb to Military. Mr. Johnson was put together after i acquired a blued Rec.With some parts trading help from a couple of guys i on the board i picked up a really nice sporter barrel and a very nice set of deluxe furn. to fill him out.The mag housing is painted a nice semi gloss black. The FT. sight now has a hood and i recently got a Johnson Automatics muzzle break for him. Not been tapped for a scope but the rear sight is from a Military rifle. with a recent mainspring replacement (Thanks Joe) He is a really nice shooter and fairly accurate. As spoken of in another thread all of the rifles in my Johnson collection have names and or ranks. It was easier to discuss the projects with my father by naming them Ryche.

I'm going to disagree as well... out here in AZ. the market is huge with the hunters as well. Granted your hard core gotta use a( insert popular American brand) guys are still prominent but the Milsurp market will often beat them out. Oh and we have A LOT of cowboy collectors as well , Some of their stuff could be considered Milsurp from the 1800's i suppose Like what i think Imgone was getting at is it might be kind of a regional thing. Ed: If you go on Youtube and look up Forgotten weapons 44 Johnson light machinegun you will find another of Ian's videos about it as well. He also did one on my DROR a couple years back. Also at the end of this posted video there will come up a bunch of thumbnail pictures linking to those videos. Ryche

Ed: No question, my father and i named the ones in our collection for easier discussion. Mr. Johnson is the post war commercial, Pvt. Johnson is the war time 41 rifle, Col. Johnson is the replica para carbine, Gen. Johnson is the semi JLMG, and Rabbi Johnson is the Israeli Pat. 2 DROR. Mostly just for fun, but also made discussion easier when most of them were still kits without having to go pull out the kits. Ryche Hey Art: You got it, as the "family" grew it was easier for ID especially when hunting parts

HE (Mr. Johnson) What i call it to differentiate from the others (pvt. Johnson, Col. Johnson etc.) Shot beautifully That new spring really helped. I was kind of amazed at how accurate the commercial barrel was, I suppose i just never thought about it . That it should be very accurate for being a deer rifle or such. Anyway it was a good shoot, empty ammo cans and no broke guns Ryche

so far i have found: if you go on youtube and look up woG wiki you can get a number of the videos. My wife is looking into the game part. we should have more info after the weekend. The only problem i see so far, is in alot of cases they disassemble some things that shouldn't be done. Some times they show rivets as pins etc. Will let you all know when i have more info. Ryche

This is from a game, but i don't know the name of it. There are many weapon systems in the game, i have used several of them as a basic tutorial on some fire arms i'm less familiar with. It came on real handy when replacing a safety sear on my STG-44.If you look at the thumbnails on the right of the screen you should see some of the others that can be viewed. Ryche I will attempt to find out where it's available. I need my son's or wife's help to do so . Ryche
