  1. Lemmy: I kicked this idea around using 8mm and a DROR barrel some years ago. I figured that i could make a spacer for the front of the mag with a low feed ramp on it. The idea never got off the ground (yet!) but i don't see why you can't do this with the correct cartridge load and a chamber spacer from 30.06 to .308. We used to do it on Garrands all the time when .308 was cheaper. The head is the same size so there would be no bolt face, extractor issue. so it looks as if a spacer with a helping feed ramp might work. Anybody else with some ideas on this??? Ryche
  2. Digger: you probably shouldn't run anything heavier than a 150 gr. bullet in the 30.06 barrel. Remember the gun was designed around a military load of the time and 150 was about max. I made the mistake once and ran 170 gr. in mine. with the hit and dent the ejector left on the brass i was afraid i had broken the ejector. I believe there have been a couple of discussions on this board about not going over 150. Anyway glad to hear you got the 7mm running well, problems like you had can be really frustrating. Ryche
  3. I have always enjoyed my dealings with Joe. He is a stand up guy and greatly appreciated by us on the board. By the way nice looking 34, Does she run or just a display piece? Ryche
  4. There was a muzzle break made by Winfield for the post war Johnsons, but they are few and far between. Perhaps yours has been threaded for one of these... Ryche
  5. I have seen one but have no other info... As i remember it was on a LMG barrel. Ryche
  6. Hello everybody and Happy New Year... Gregs part is on it's way Mon. and we are talking about the cocking handle problem. So we should have another on the line soon... Just wanted to update all. Ryche
  7. Hey Butch: You deserve credit for this as well, as i do not know how to post things like that. Also it would have taken me awhile to even mention the fact that there was a video. So BIG thanks to you for putting where all on this board will see and for the kick in my butt to mention where the video came from. Ryche evidently Dash is responsible for posting the video so we were both wrong, Sorry Dash So credit due to Dash.... Without all the guys here most of this wouldn't be possible. I wish i could bring her by and let everybody shoot a mag, but my thanks will have to do Ryche
  8. Hey Ed : It's mine But i cannot take full credit for the working model. Without Brian's help it would still be a pile of parts in the shop. When i told Ian that i had a working DROR he was excited to do a video on it. Video was shot early this past summer and with Ian's hectic schedule it finally got edited and posted. I hope everyone enjoys the video especially my 6 seconds of fame in the slo mo, that's me pulling the trigger so he could shoot the high speed video. If you are not familiar with this mans work on youtube and many other sites you should be, look up Forgotten Weapons on youtube. He has hours of video avalb. for viewing on any and all rare and odd weapons systems. He is one of the most knowledgeable individuals i know in the gun collecting field. If you need any other info shoot me a P.M. Ryche
  9. Of Many things i'm thankful for, one of the top is this site and all who contribute time and effort to it. Many thanks to them all. Everyone have a great Holidays and a happy new year. Ryche
  10. So a Big Happy Birthday to Greg. He and i are working it out and he will have a shooter before to long:) On a separate note i finally found some magazines for my MP-35. I have been hunting for 7 years for these and sent the check yesterday for 3 of them... So merry Christmas to me hehehe. Ryche
  11. So SAR west was in Phoenix last weekend. Saw 3 JSAR's at the show. The 1st the vendor wanted $6500 and i would swear it had one of Joe's stocks on it, it was just to nice to be the orig with the wear on the gun. He wouldn't let me check close enough to find out and when i asked him if it was a replacement he got disgusted with me and moved to a different person to talk to. The 2nd was priced at $5500 and showed overall wear but not bad. The guy was nice about letting me hold it but got snappy when i told him i didn't have 5 grand with me but just an intense interest the rifle system. The 3rd the guy was never at his table when i came by and his buddy didn't know the price. They were all B prefix rifles which i thought interesting. More than last year but not as many in previous years. Overall it was a pretty good show for me this year. Ryche
  12. Ok i checked and i do have one avlb. $20 plus $2 should cover shipping just about anywhere. You can answer on this thread if interested or shoot me a P.M. for info exchange. Ryche
  13. I will look to see if i happen to have one otherwise Joe might have one or possibly Brian. As soon as i can wade through the snow to the shop i will take a look. Ryche
  14. Alot of the bolt stops were removed by the original carrier or later owner as they are kind of a pain in the butt to work with. bolt stops are avlb. but they are as stated kind of a pain to work with. Good luck with your new toy and be prepared to answer alot of questions at the range when you take her out. You will also run into alot of "Experts" who have never owned or fired one with alot of bad publicity to tell you about them. Just blow these guys off they are not worth the argument time and don't know any better. You will also find guys who are very appreciative to just look at it or hold it, most having never seen one outside of a museum. Good luck with her Ryche
  15. I wouldn't recommend using anything heavier than 150 gr. I made that mistake once when i accidentally loaded some 170 gr. in mine while at the range. After getting kicked really good about 3 times i checked the brass and found a deep dent in the head of the case from the ejector. After checking the factory box i realized my mistake and down loaded the mag. I was most concerned with cracking or breaking the ejector, a hard to find and expensive part, the kick was nothing nice either. Ryche
  16. I believe its a part number rather than a serial number. It's on mine as well but not the same number. Ryche
  17. He must not have sold it last time. This same one went through a couple of months ago. His reserve is way high. Ryche
  18. Ouch!! like the man above said "At least it wasn't worse" Like a lost bolt handle or something equally expensive to replace. Good luck on the fix. I had an ouch myself two weeks ago at a 2 gun match. During the course of stage 3 i didn't make the shooting box in time and had to drop and shoot from prone in all this nice loose Arizona dirt. I figured that was a good time to reload as i was getting low. I made the prone shot and got up and started to run{ weapon pointed down range of course} not realizing i was as close to the shoot box as i was. I stopped short and with all the dust on my hands my rifle slipped out of my hands and down in the dirt she went, sliding along and gathering more scratches and dings. At the time i didn't know that when i went prone i popped the snap on my pistol holster with the butt of my rifle. When i got up to run for the box i didn't know that my unloaded pistol {no pistol shots on this stage} Had fallen out of the holster and was laying in the dirt. Consequently i was disqualified from the match for losing control of my weapon, not once but twice Every one assumed i would be mad about the DQ, but hey that's the rules. I was mad about throwing my Johnson into the dirt {alot of johnson jokes were made then} and adding more scratches to the stock. One guy did point out, after i cleaned her off, that it wasn't that bad and not really noticeable due to the "road wear" that was already there long before i got her. All in all it was a fun day and my rifle preformed beautifully especially at the 200 yard stage. I told them i didn't mind the DQ and would be back next month to wreak havoc on the other guys scores Also ALOT of comment on the rifle, most of the young AR15 guys had no clue what is was, and most of the older gentlemen knew and couldn't believe i would shoot competition with it. I love taking it out to play..... Ryche
  19. Didn"t Johnson automatics make a break or flash hider of some sort??? I remember being out bid on one some years ago. I believe it to have been for the civilian version but is it possible someone threaded a military for the same break? Ryche
  20. I am working with this gentleman now to get his part to him. Hopefully thats all he needs to complete his rifle. Ryche
  21. I spoke with the seller and he was pretty convinced that it was real. Claims he never heard of the guy you mentioned. Oh well good luck to him and buyer BEWARE!!!. I'm going back to my BAR bipod set up. If anyone knows of a repro avlb. for a decent price let me know. I don't mind a repro as i cannot afford a orig. unless i get really lucky. Ryche
  22. I may have some as well if you don't find a complete stock set up. Ryche
  23. Oh i didn't realize you had more than one of the .303's. Probably should have guessed with some of our conversations. That one table sounds like it would be a pinnacle of any show, i know its the table where i could be found... If you have a pic of the display i'd love to see it. I'm hoping to have a display close to that soon myself, minus the .303 and the 44JLMG. But who knows about in the future... I'm just looking forward to causing a stir at the local range when i show up with the pat. 2 DROR Ryche
  24. Sounds like it was a great show , wish i could have been there. Brian: I didn't realize you were selling the .303 DROR's? Does anybody really know what they are? Ryche
  25. Yes i still have the part for you and sent you an e-mail as well. $20 plus shipping is all i need. Ryche
