  1. I would be interested in a nice, original bayonet & scabbard. I wish I could afford another 41 rifle.
  2. I had Bob do this for me a few years ago but the thread is long gone. Any help regarding #8746 would be appreciated. Thankyou, Tony I
  3. She sure looks good to me. It looks like the rifle I looked at 30 years ago at the Fresno gun show for $300. Hindsight is 20/20 isn't it? The sling is probably a repop. Congradulations on your find.
  4. Tylis2, I hope this rifle checks out well for you. I have rifle 8746 and would like to compare it to 8700 if you purchase it. Keep me posted. Good luck & best regards. Tony
  5. How I would like to hear the whole story on this one. Please keep us informed. Thanks, Tony
  6. The importer was Import Arms Co. aka Old Sacremento Armory. The stampings are either IA CO SAC CA or IAC SAC CA. Hope this helps.
  7. Great story Sandy, I can relate because I went through the same ordeal only I have a wife to answer to. I too had a JSAR on my list for many years and finally got my wish several months ago. This forum has a great bunch of people who are always willing to help you in any way they can. Honestly, this is my favorite rifle and my favorite forum. Tony
  8. Hi Bob, I am curious to know if you have found any Johnson SAR's that actually match the log book of early non prefix rifles. If so, what percentage. I know mine struck out, but what about the others you have seen. Thanks again & best regards, Tony
  9. I have noticed that Mr. Canfields 41 shown on page 112 of his fine book does not show the screws on either side of the buttstock (just rear of the pistol grip). My rifle has wood plugs over the screws that blend very well with the stock. Also, my serial number is very close to Mr. Canfield's (87xx range). I would like to thank Mr. Canfield for his hard work and contributions to our hobby. I have just about every book this gentleman has written and use them regularly. Even my wife knows who Bruce Canfield is. What a wealth of information we have because of people like Canfield, Duff, Pyle, Ruth, Brophy, Cole, Jansen, Seijas and many others alike. Thanks again! Tony
  10. I certainly appreciate the quick replies to my questions. I have wanted a Johnson 41 for many years and have passed up some decent deals in the past. I am going to buy the one rifle that was offered to me for 1850.00. It is in very clean shape but does appear to be a Winfield redo. Thanks again for the help and I look forward to being a part of this forum in the future. Tony
  11. I have looked at two Johnson rifles in the past week and both had a dark blue polished reciever and top handguard. The sides of the reciever were a matt blue and the magazine was a shinny dark blue like the top of the reciever. Both these rifles have a fairly light finish walnut stocks which appear to be original. Both rifles were from the first lot of production and have no letter prefix (#50xx & #87xx). I am a little confused as to what an unaltered finish is supposed to look like. I do have Canfields book and from what I can see in the b&w photos, the finish does appear to be glossy. Thankyou in advance for any help. Tony
