Some have lots of this 8x57MM Mauser Romanian ammo around and it was obtained at a bargain price compared to 30/06 or 7x57MM Mauser. However factor in the price of a new barrel and the gunsmithing cost...well the choice is questionable IMHO. "Again, might a silencer affect the recoil performance?" Yes unless sniping using the charging handle like a bolt gun until the silencer was removed. Another thought it could be threaded for blank adapter use in a movie gun. Would not in either case be able to self load due to not enough recoil impulse...IMHO

"the muzzle the ID was bored oversize and threaded about 1/2 inch deep with fairly fine threads" Old European silencer mounting. Mostly in pistols though. Seen a few Walther's and Beretta's threaded this way. No external threads to give away the mounting at a quick glance.

I know that these rifles were war production but I was surprised to see the final digit ( 7 ) of the serial number B2277 stamped so far out of alignment with the other digits.
