  1. I have one and glad I do
  2. Please correct me if I am wrong on this but I have found as long as a 150 grain bullet is used with a medium burning rate powder, in a M1941 Johnson, you are good to go. However in a M1 Garand with an original gas plug, you must stick with a flat base 150 grain bullet, and a powder that duplicates the burning rate of the M2 Ball, for best accuracy. Such a powder is IMR 4895. If you get an adjustable gas plug then you can play with different burning rate powders. Or like in the past... my friends and I experimented with different surplus powders before adjustable gas plugs were commonly available, which makes feeding a Garand much easier now. IMHO
  3. Looks great to me and I like my Winfield
  4. I was perusing GBoards "Military Pics" posts in their "Off Topic Lounge" when I found this photo posted by "curly1" one of the admins. Thought I would share it. Johnson_LMG.rtf
  5. eBay is full of errors like this. Lots of items slip through.
  6. Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new "Friend". Your adventure starts now!
  7. Rarecat the Tulsa show is one I have always wanted to go to. Must be awesome to see. Blueheeler said "The Reising was dumped pretty quickly by the USMC as a combat weapon after Guadalcanal" I worked with a Marine ( Ralph Ballard) who carried a M50 into battle there. He said as he would insert the 4th or 5th mag he would look for a place to clean it and reload the mags. He used it with great success and shot/killed the IJN sniper that shot him through the ankle with a Type 97 from up in a palm tree there. I had a M60 Reising for awhile back in the 1980's
  8. If you look in this link at the rifles that the IJA and the IJN used in WWII you will see that the vast majority were of domestic design and manufacture. There are some exceptions but IMHO the officer core were of the same mindset, concerning rifles, as the Germans. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Japanese_military_equipment_of_World_War_II
  9. Welcome to the forum Amber. Member Joseph Scott, on this forum, may still have for sale an excellent DVD for these rifles. He may have some of the parts you might need for sale too. I highly recommend replacing the recoil spring before you fire your rifle. A new spring is 12 inches long.
  10. Welcome to the forum and a nice early rifle! Just a thought... In a way we don't really own these pieces of history...we are merely their caretakers.
  11. I shall pray for your speedy recovery.
  12. Saw this on GunBoards. https://www.gunboards.com/threads/for-sale-1941-johnson-firing-pin-reduced.1228262/#post-11129915 Not mine just passing this on... Orlando on GunBoards "Price reduced $130 plus shipping."
  13. Seller has reduced price to $120.
  14. Glad you finally got it! I also have had "issues" with them over many years. Personally and professionally. I will not use them unless they are the last resort.
  15. Regarding the recoil spring source...I obtained mine from Joseph Scott. I have fired M2 Ball from WWII, Dominion CIL 150gr soft points, and Greek M2 Ball through my Winfield with no issues. It spits the fired brass out with similar vigor to my FN1949 ABL.
  16. OK but where did you get your new spring from?
  17. Very nice and welcome aboard! Before you take her out to the range please check the length of the recoil spring which should be 12 inches.
  18. Please remember that the auction is presented by RIA. They have been in this business for a long time and surely would know the ATF rules on this question. That to me is real conundrum of my question. Is it a mistake that the M1941 Winfield modified rifles are listed as C&R eligible or are they actually considered by the ATF to be so? Could it be that because the Winfield rifles were modified over 50 years ago and that perhaps Winfield Arms had a 07 FFL that these rifles are C&R eligible?
  19. I see that lots #653 and #4528 are listed as "Class: Curio & Relic Long Gun" which are both modified from mil-spec to sporting rifles. Since they are modified I do not believe they qualify as a C&R firearm. "ATF’s classification of surplus military firearms as curios or relics has extended only to those firearms in their original military configuration." So I wonder why they are listed by RIA as C&R. Has anyone here seen a C&R license qualify for the transfer of a Winfield or any sporter rework ? https://www.atf.gov/firearms/qa/what-firearms-are-considered-be-curio-and-relic-firearms
  20. I have questions... "Metal Condition: The finish is in excellent condition, with minimal wear. ( What finish?) Stock/Grips Condition: The furniture is in excellent condition, minimal wear. (Does not look that to me) Bore: the bore is in excellent condition, shiny through out with strong rifling, (No photos) Action: Functions in every way. Bolt holdback works! (No Photos) Curios & Relic Eligible: YES (As it is a Winfield this is not correct is it?) A misleading statement when Seller also states "You must contact your FFL transfer dealer and have them send a copy of their license with your name, username, the item and order numbers to the seller."
  21. Over on Gunboards there is a fellow selling 2 each 25 rounders for $100 OBO + actual shipping cost. Email at bevisblack15NOSPAM@yahoo.com (remove NOSPAM)
  22. I and my daughter have had various packages shipped through FedEx that somehow got to go in circles or to Hawaii. Some that were coming from the east coast have been stuck in Portland Oregon for a couple days too. Seems to be the norm for FedEx now.
  23. Greetings from the "Everwet" state which I might change to the "Dried Out State"
  24. There is what is claimed to be an original for $650 + $12 shipping. Has #1817 on the bayonet. #05768 on the scabbard. Not mine but if interested PM me and I will send the link.
  25. Please don't misunderstand... I absolutely agree with you even though there are more modern coatings that may be better, but Brian Alpert asked the question.
