  1. The gun has just come back from Mr. Scott's shop. The main spring was changed out for a new one. Looks like it will have to go back. Matt
  2. I will be talking to Mr. Scott about this also. I just got back from the range. This is the first time to shoot my 1941. Life was good I hit paper with the first shot and only needed minor corrections to sight it in. After the first 9 shots we started splitting cases and blowing out primers. These are 150 grain Remington, NOT reloads. I have pictures. Disregard the date they were taken today 7/11/09 If it is me what am I doing wrong? If it is not me what can I do to fix this situation?
  3. Yup, you just call in and tell them the voices told you to stay home and clean guns. Matt Milliron
  4. The gun has been back for less than 30 minutes. I have put it back together. It is wonderful to be able aim the thing. Looks great. Back to saving up money for the next steps. a. New wood b. front sight and bayonet mount Thank you Mr. Scott. Matt Milliron
  5. I just talked to Mr. Scott, and reread my post. It is not Joseph Scott that I was worried about. It was handing my baby over to the United States Postal Service, THAT worried me. Please forgive if I gave the wrong impression. ps - my recoil spring was 1/2 inch short.(replaced) He informed me that the firing pin spring was good. He also found pins in the trigger group that had backed out, could have caused doubling fire(fixed). Repaired my rear sight dovetail. Filled in all the holes that Winfield Arms drilled in the receiver for a scope. Informed me that the front sight has been filed down and the gun will shoot high. I am short of cash so I can't get it all done right now. I still need a new front sight, bayonet mount, Bayonet and military wood. I will be doing more business with this Gentleman. Matt
  6. Well, I just did on of the hardest things I have ever done. I packed up my Johnson and put it in the US Mail. I have shipped it to Mr. Scott for the first step, getting it back to military trim. Even with the maximum insurance it was hard to hand it over. However, When it comes back I should be able to go shootin! New recoil spring and a rear sight. Matt
  7. I have a Winfield Arms. Serial #B7066. Wings cut off of front sight, no bayonet lug, barrel from an M1 Garand, rear sight dovetail machined off and drilled for a scope. Still has the Winfield Arms recoil pad. Saving up money to send it to Mr. Scott's camp for wayward Johnsons. I bet my cash on most being Winfields or ex-winfields. Matt Milliron
  8. Thanks, I will give it a try. Matt Milliron
  9. Background: I recently tried to buy a Ruger Mini-14. While doing my research on this, I found out that barrel twist has a profound effect on what weight projectile will shoot straightest. The new Mini's have a 1:9 barrel twist and the heaviest bullet that will shoot well is about 62 grains. A heavier slug will not spin as well and tend to wander. Question: What is the barrel twist of the Johnson? Mine was re-barreled with an M1 Garand barrel. Is the twist the same? I have seen bullet weights from 125-220 grains. What is the heaviest projectile that will shoot well in these barrels? I have this weird thought about going hunting. Matt Milliron
  10. I just finished reading the entire bulletin board. I wanted to say "Hello" and Thanks for all the info. I am the proud owner of a JSAR #B7066 This is what I know, now. For taking down a Johnson there is nothing like a hard plastic golf Tee, pushes buttons well and won't scratch the gun. It is a Winfield Arms sporter. Says so on the butt pad. With a dull black metal finish and some rust. It came from a closet in a house with a swamp cooler. The only green is on the magazine door that I replaced. The receiver had been drilled and tapped for a scope. Six holes! The back lug of the sight has been milled off. It has no bayonet lug and the front sight has had the wings cut off. Numbers we got numbers: JSAR: B7066 barrel (modified M1 Garand, has those two little notches) number on the back lug is: 1009F extractor : H5567 firing Pin: A222 Locking cam: E5436 Bolt: 00514 Magazine: C0125 Hammer: A7489 I have been in contact with Joseph Scott, bought the movie. This info allowed me to replace several missing pins and the magazine door and spring. When the finances allow it I will be sending it to Mr. Scott to replace the stock, replace the springs and check it for firing safety. My goal is to have it back to military grade when I am done. My step-Father bought the gun in a sporting goods store in the early 60's for $140. He said he was was pissed because he found two more guns down the street for $20 less. When my Mother passed away three years ago it was given to me. I am not a collector but I do not plan to sell it. Thanx again R. M. Milliron
