  1. This is a difficult question to answer without seeing the rifle and/or a good set of pix. Is it worth it? How much has to be done and can you do it? Bottom line is how much will it cost to "re-militarize" the rifle vs how much it will increase the value. Using Joe's estimate assume it's a $2,500 rifle that will possibly sell for $5,000. Can the work be done for less than $2,500? What needs replacing? Stock, barrel, sights, any grinding of the receiver, parking, etc. Whats your ability and time worth? What will it cost to have the work done? I'd suggest you make a list of all that needs to be done and decide from there. So IMHO without significantly more info any estimate is a "WAG"! Hope this helps

  16. Well it took longer than I expected, but I finally got my 7x57 (7mm Mauser) reloads done and I tested them yesterday. As a base I used Prvi factory ammo which functioned flawlessly. Firing at 200 yards. I noted that I had to drift the rear sight extremely left and set the rear sight at 500 meters to be zeroed. Then fired my "100%" reloads; 35.5 grains of IMR4895 with 139 gr. H-Interlock SP bullets. Functioned (cycled fine); Next went to my "95%" reloads: 33.7 grains of IMR4895 with the same bullets. First shot did not cycle, but all following did cycle. I could notice a difference I cannot define; Next I tried my "90%" reloads with little optimism: 32 grains of IMR4895 with same bullets. I was NOT surprised, the rifle did NOT cycle. I had to hand cycle each round. So my results are that the M1941 in 7x57 has a slight envelope of margin to reduce loads. I'm settling upon 34.2 grains of IMR4895 with the 139 gr bullets. Obviously different powders/bullet weights will produce varied results. HTH, be careful and offered only as a single example (and any other lawyer speak needed to exempt me of liability), YMMV! Mike
  17. Your results will be ahead of mine. On my way out of town and won't get to trying light loads until first week in May. Til then and thanx
  18. please post your results, as will I when I get them. TIA
  19. FWIW and this is anything but a definitive datum. I have a M1941 (originally in .30-06) on which I have placed a 7x57mm barrel. No other changes. Using factory 7x57mm 139 gr. bullet ammo the rifle cycles fine. I am currently working loads for bullet weights up to 155gr. My sense (guess) is the M1941 has quite a range enabling the recoil to function as designed. Again this is one anecdotal datum. HTH
  20. I am told there is a source for counterfeit Johnson M1941 parts, possibly in CA. Anyone know anything about this? TIA Mike
  21. Again Brian thanx for the education, Mike
  22. The person that asked me about the Johnson M1941 parts thinks the "maker's" moniker is "Doc Hollywood". Does this ring a bell with anyone? TIA
  23. Thanx Brian! I know about Joe and the history. Some one mention to me "counterfeit" so I thought I'd ask. Thanx again, Mike
  24. I am planning to reload for my Johnson M1941 rifle in 7mm Mauser. Any good source(s) for bullets and primers? Powder, load values, etc? Note 7mm Mauser! All suggestions and recommendations are most welcome, on or off line. Thanx in advance
  25. Thanx, are there any special concerns with using these loads in the M1941? Just trying to be very safe. Anyone have favorite bullets they use? Thanx again, Mike
