  1. Got the barrel today, it is an actual Johnson barrel with matching serial number on the barrel and barrel extension and the "JA 30-06" near the breech end.

It either was welded up super proferssionally, or possibly turned down at the muzzle end (slight taper) to remove the pin marks, or I guess it could have been a factory barrel with no front sight or bayonet lug ever installed, so I will have to measure it to see what diameter it is near the muzzle.

If you can dig up the muzzle diameter on a factory barrel that would be great, otherwise a friend of mine has a 1941 Johnson that I can measure the outside diameter of the barrel to compare.

  2. Brian,

Boom!  Just the guy I was hoping would answer!

Gotcha, basically the M1941 receiver is extended to allow the bolt stop cover, etc. to be fitted to the rifle vs. the LMG not having it with the inline stock.

Assuming that I had a butchered sporter 1941 as a donor, milling that off and possibly some fitting to get the frame rails between the upper and lower to attach, and the notch on the right side for the lower catch to engage, and a LMG cam piece (rear of the carrier) it would work(?)

(and a front sight and rear sight of course)

P.S. are you still doing the Louisville gun show(s)?

    Ryche,

Thanks, I've been watching that auction, but having no idea what anything is worth, I had no idea whether it was a decent price or not? There is also a DROR 8mm bolt for sale at auction and it's not moving either. I wish I'd made a decision on exactly what to build before I went to Knob Creek earlier this month. The Creek is my best source of parts.

I already have a JSAR which has been converted to vertical feed. I sort of hate to sacrifice that nice rifle. With no provenance, it's not highly valuable, but I still believe that it was done by some professional as a prototype. The work on the stock and rifle are just far above what the average Bubba is capable of doing. It's just crafted too well.

I appreciate any and all suggestions and leads on parts. If you see something that is at a decent price just let me know. Or if you have something for sale then I might be interested in that also. So many fine firearms, and so little time.

    Mike,

if you decide to let go of that vertical feed johnson let me know, i would be very interested.
