  1. Thanks, guys. I paid $1000 for it so it looks like it was a pretty good investment. It'll be interesting to see what happens to the value over the next 25 years. And thanks for the info on the warranty, Excelsior. I didn't know about that.
  2. Bought a Miltech JSAR back during the 1980's because I couldn't find an affordable original Johnson and I have always had a love affair with USGI WWII arms. Oiled it up and stuck in the back of the safe where it has reposed since I bought it except for periodic re-lubing so it's in "original" refurbished condition. Any ideas about the value of the rifle? I'm not trying to sell it, just trying see if it was a good or bad investment.
  3. HPX meets the specs for M2 and shoots well in the Garand. Haven't shot it in the Johnson so I can't comment on that but suspect that it should be fine. That said remember that it is garden variety military ammo so don't expect tack driving accuracy unless you get lucky. The last I heard the CMP AP is corrosive and I believe it is sold out. You might want to check their website for an update though.
  4. Thanks, Walt and Art. Glad to hear Miltech has a good reputation. The first time I saw a Johnson was back in the mid-50's at Winfield Arms in downtown Los Angeles. The had a few of them and I don't recall the price but it wasn't much by todays standards, probably not much over $100. That was out of my price range then so I settled for an British Enfield .303 as my first center fire. Wish I'd bought several Johnsons now, though.
  5. I'm looking at a Johnson from a private party. The rifle is in beautiful condition. No scratches, dings, or anything. It looks brand new. He says he bought it from a company called Miltech over 20 years ago. I did a search on them and they look like a legit firm that sells reconditioned arms. Does the fact that it is reconditioned detract from the value, and is $4500 a reasonable price?
  6. Thanks, guys. That load works well in the Garand and it will really simplify things if I can use the same load in both weapons.
  7. Thanks. I've been loading 46 grains of IMR 4895 with the Sierra 168 gr. Matchking for the Garand. Does that sound suitable?
  8. Are there any constraints on powder, bullet weights, or anything else when reloading for the Johnson? The M1 requires powder with a specific pressure curve such as IMR 4895 or IMR 4064, and bullet weights of 175 grains or less to prevent damage to the operating rod. Do the same constraints apply to the Johnson?
