  1. Is there any information for this Johnson #9452? It has bolt # 5827. It retains the Cranston Arms stamp on the rear of the receiver. The rifle has been sporterized. The barrel was apparently cut just behind the bayonet lug. The stock is either a sporter version or was shortened, as there is no evidence of a metal butt plate, only a modern pad. The OE rear sight assembly is gone & was replaced with a Lyman peep sight. The front sight is a a generic (to me) hunting sight. The Johnson shoots well enough, but I surely could use a magazine cover spring. I have fashioned a circular tension spring as a temporary fix so I can shoot the rifle. Do Johnson rifles' bolts stay open after the last shot was fired? Mine doesn't. It's not a problem, but I'm just curious. Thanks for any info the board can provide.
  2. I too am missing the Mag cover spring for my Johnson. Numrich is still sold out. I am checking with SARCO. Does anyone have a suggestion for a source? I could use a replacement barrel as well, because the barrel on my rifle has been shortened. It shoots really well, however, so the replacement barrel isn't a necerssity, but finding that Mag cover spring or a diagram of it so I can have one made is. Thank you. Mike
  3. Another issue has surfaced after another trip to the range, that of cartridges don't stay in the magazine as they are loaded. So, before I go any further, it is time to take the manual & follow the directions to field strip the rifle & see what else is going on. NOTE to APSS282: sure, I'd be interested in a bolt hold open lever. Tell me more. Email me off sight at mplechaty@earthlink.net if you wish.
  4. I took my newly-aquired Johnson sporter to the range weekend to test fire. Right in the bullseye at 50 yards, so I am happy (or lucky, given my old eyes). The bolt does not stay open after the last shot, however. Not really an issue with me, but I would like to get the rifle working correctly. What typically causes the bolt not to stay open with a Johnson? No plans to return this to military configuration. Thanks.
