  1. Well, finally got a chance today to work on my new pride and joy. Spent the day taking it apart and cleaning, cleaning and cleaning some more! Although the barrel is in fantastic condition, there was a lot of copper build up. After about 3 hours, finally got the barrel copper free and as clean as if brand new. The rest of the rifle and parts had years of crud build up but was very easy to clean up. Once all the cleaning was done, I turned my attention to all the individual parts and their respective numbers. With the information that Brian supplied me, I found the trigger and magazine were the only parts original to the rifle. I didn't remove the trigger block but I suspect it will be matching. The rifle was converted back to 30-06 at some point. I am guessing that when the barrel was replaced, the complete bolt assembly was removed and replaced, leaving the rest of the parts intact. I think once I remove the trigger block, my suspicions will be confirmed. With cleaning complete and wear points lubed, it was time to re-assemble. Head space checked and found it to be good. Rifle went back together easily with complete action functioning like butter! I am planning on visiting my local range this coming Friday and running some rounds through her!!
  2. Hello, I recently just purchased my JSAR and I am trying to find out as much about it as possible. If there is any information on JASR serial #5836, I would greatly appreciate the information! Thanks Wayne
  3. Another newbie to JSAR question. I understand that the early rifles did not have a bolt lock. My rifle, #5836, does not lock the bolt back or at least the bolt won't lock open? Is my rifle early enough in production to not have the lock? thanks wayne
  4. Thanks again, Brian!
  5. Thanks Brian! Now that I'm on the same page as you!! That is exactly what I needed to see! Wayne
  6. Hi Brian, Sorry to keep bugging you about the rifle on whether it is 7mm or 30 cal.. I am not sure on what you mean when you say the chamber will be stepped up if 7mm? My chamber is nice bell shape on the left side of the chamber but steps down on the right side with the frontĀ of the chamber on the right side nearly flat? Just trying to be sure!

    Thanks,

    Wayne

  7. Hey Russ, Is it possible to take a picture of your chamber and post it? thanks wayne
  8. Hi Brian, i have only had the chance to look at the chamber. I believe it is 30-06. The chamber is smooth with no apparent step up. It chambers a 30-06 round beautifully with bolt closing completely. At this point, the bolt and barrel do not match the numbers you gave me. wayne
  9. Being a new owner of a JSAR, I am unfamiliar with the takedown procedure. Even this website says don't attempt if you don't know what you're doing. I'll be the first to admit that I don't know what I'm doing with this particular rifle. I was reading in another post that there is a video showing step by step how to take down the JSAR. Does anybody have a copy of this video I can borrow/purchase? Thanks in advance! Wayne
  10. Thanks again Brian! I have not had the opportunity to check it out. I just got it and haven't had the chance to look at it completely. I will keep you posted! Wayne
  11. Yes, I was on johnsonautomatics.com. Thanks for the info!
  12. Thanks Brian! I really appreciate the information. I will repost once I check the rifle out completely. At this point I am not sure if it is still 7mm. The barrel is stamped .30-06 but that doesn't mean anything, especially after reading the above newspaper clipping.
