  1. There's currently one on ebay.
  2. May well be legit, but that listing has some red flags, low volume seller inactive for some time until now who suddenly lists several expensive guns. Could be a collector selling out but that type of profile has been seen before in scam listings.
  3. The one I worked on had the recoil stop on place.
  4. 11.5 grains imr4227, 40 grain vmax or sierra bullet, mixed commercial cases, cci small rifle primers, IMI carbine, and I'm blowing primers out -any thoughts or recommendations?
  5. Some type of barrel on gun broker https://www.gunbroker.com/item/1007541073
  6. I think it is the red background showing through the receiver opening.
  7. It was on ebay, very reasonably priced.
  8. Just picked this up, thought it was an interesting inscription.
  9. Who ever shortened mine did a decent job.
  10. I just bought one the same length off of GB. Looks just like yours, original barrel.
  11. I had an extraction issue I cured by using a flex-hone to polish the chamber. Making a chamber casting might also be something to consider. Can you post a picture of the marking on the brass you mention?
  12. The reciever markings are a bit fuzzy but they don't seem to match up to an original- the location and font of 1941 seems a bit off, the spacing in Providence seems different, and there should be a period and comma after the I in R.I. (R.I., U.S.A.), a nuance some miss when remarking a receiver. A better picture might help.
  13. Thanks for all the help. I'm going to take step back and pause on the gun for a bit while I consider my options. One possibility is to just rebarrel this one to 30 carbine, and look for another 5.7. There's a couple of plainfield sporter 5.7s on gunbroker right now, but I'm a bit leary of those particular guns. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/995848215 https://www.gunbroker.com/item/995846099
  14. Well, the guages arrived and the bad news, stripped bolt closes easily on both go and no go. Tried two other bolts, same result. Any advice welcome as to what to do next.
  15. Chamber cast is done. 223 barrel reading. Outside neck diameter is .257 and neck length is .22 so I think the neck is ok. Primers will blow with a .223 40 grain bullet. Next step I guess is to check headspace.
  16. Thanks, I have the problem with 223 bullets as well. I will be checking headspace and making a chamber cast in the near future and will report my findings.
  17. Thanks,I am stumped too. I guess I'll do a chamber casting , then maybe rent some headspace guages if that does not indicate any issues.
  18. On ebay, just search "new 1941 johnson mainspring"
  19. I saw that auction,I ended up buying the other handguard that was up. It looks a bit beat up but I really wanted it for the cross pin retaining clip.
  20. The Coast Guard and Marines both used the Reising submachine gun, so maybe somebody's memory got a bit mixed up between the Johnson and the Reising. The Reising was dumped pretty quickly by the USMC as a combat weapon after Guadanal so I could see USMC weapons being turned over to the Coast Guard.
  21. An original barrel just sold on ebay for $1802.00.
  22. I got one in nice shape off ebay for $35.00 about a year and a half ago.
  23. I highly doubt the NRA story, I'll be charitable and suggest that the seller's recollection is mistaken.
  24. Another possibility is that they were waxed sometime after being issued and before being placed back into long term storage, but as pointed out, why not use cosmoline or grease?
  25. This has been on ebay for a while, but I just noticed the markings, 7.65x53 and 46, which I take to mean its for a 7.65 argentine barrel and was made in 1946. Anyone ever see a 7.65 arg. JSAR barrel? I do know the argies produced a single prototype M1941 copy in 7.65x53 in the 50s.
