  1. Looks gorgeous! Whit
  2. My father and I have rebuilt two MGBs and several Triumph Spitfires over the years. They were inadequate transportation and caused many a frustrating day. We learned the hard way that a aftermarket turbo and high compression pistons don’t mix. I cherish those times. The destination is one thing, the journey another and to each their own. I have enjoyed talking apart the M1s I bought from the CMP and have “built” a few now from parts and enjoyed all of that as well and while I’m sure I didn’t make any great money doing it when I’m using them I know what they are supposed to feel like and what they are not supposed to feel like. I have my own small machine shop and have done minor gunsmith work as well and have had some success doing so. My Craftsman lathe does better now that I’ve added a DRO and I enjoyed and learned from that project as well. Could have bought a better one new and know less. It’s my rifle and as a (former) Marine Officer I’d like it to look like it would have in the hands of my brothers. I won’t be the first to do so. Still would appreciate help finding some parts, in particular a recoil tube and buttplate.
  3. I have been offered a reproduction buttstock which I’d like to use but requires a recoil spring tube to test. Does anyone have a recoil tube they would sell? I can’t get mine out of a Winfield stock without much damage. Recoil keys would also be appreciated though I may be able to source those. Whitpusmc@aol.com directly or through forum PM
  4. I appreciate your response. Are you saying that I could use my same rifle and merely by swapping barrels I could shoot 7mm and 30 06? If so I’m mildly disappointed I did not bid on that 7mm barrel that just sold for $175... I understand what you are saying, and it is tempting to not mess with my rifles stock at all. If I could get a replacement stock I would just swap them out and retain both so as to have both the Sporter version and the original as the metal on the rifle is unchanged and I now should have a Sporter barrel to shoot and a military one to display. I’m just not a fan of that recoil bad, it just doesn’t look like it belongs! I will keep looking, but so far zero leads on a replacement stock.
  5. How did he manage to get the rifle back from where he was wounded? Normally you can’t maintain possession of a firearm through the medical evacuation process?
  6. I really appreciate the responses! I believe I’ve been fortunate enough to locate a 30 06 barrel so I’m going to pass on the 7MM and allow someone else to acquire it. I was both thinking of acquiring that 7mm barrel and 1) using the external parts to unsporterize my 30 06 barrel and 2) if that failed, attempt to ream out the 7mm barrel to 30 06. I was concerned that any mistake would as said above, trash a good 7mm barrel. Now does anyone have a buttplate they are willing to preferably sell or if not, loan to me to allow me to create a reproduction that would fit a Winfield buttstock? Your buttplate would not be harmed in any way, just measured. My reproduction would have my name permanently on the inside and would be easily determined to be a reproduction.
  7. Thank you!
  8. Are the external dimensions of the 7mm barrel the same as a 30 06 barrel?

  10. Thank you for your advice! I found a rear swivel and a front sight so some progress. Please keep me in mind if you ever see one!
  11. Thank you, much appreciated. Please keep me in mind if you ever see one!
  12. I greatly appreciate the replies. I have tried to reach Mr Scott with no success. Does anyone have a way to reach him? I did try the forum methods without result, it says he can’t receive messages? Whit WhItpusmc@aol.com
  13. I have a Winfield Sporter M1941. I would very much appreciate any help getting a replacement stock for it. I can be reached at Whitpusmc@aol.com. I’m a former Marine Officer and my mother’s maiden name is Johnson so it’s a very important rifle for me.
  14. A7729 is now mine though not in my hands as of yet. I would be grateful for any information about it members would like to share. Eventually I want to return it to military configuration so I’m looking for a buttstock and Buttplate and rear sling swivel. Would also like a military configuration barrel. Any leads towards parts would be appreciated as well. Whit
