  1. Congratulations on your rifle. If you get south for any reason I would be happy to check out your rifle, make sure it is safe to shoot. Show you how to disassemble it. I live in Longview and am a 07FFL (manufacture) specializing in military arms. Here is a link to post on my personal JSAR project. http://johnsonautomatics.com/messageboard/index.php?/topic/2893-new-member-trying-to-restore-1941-johnson/&page=1
  2. Savage Range Systems model GT Tabletop Gunsmith Here is a link https://www.savagerangesystems.com/content?p=traps It has paid for it's self in time and fuel. Don't have much room in my shop or I would have gone with the next larger one. Been real happy with it. I've wanted a JSAR for sometime just don't see them much anymore, so when this came up I jumped on it not knowing much about the weapon system. When I start in on a new weapon system I research them all I can. Canfield's book was a great resource. Love the story and history behind both the Man and the gun. I've been a fan of the Garand and the BM59 for a long time but after my experience with the JSAR I believe it was ahead of the garand. Especially the magazine and removable barrel. It's a shame the the US military did not adopt it along side the garand.
  3. Ok been a minute since I've posted progress on this rifle. Been waiting approx 1 year for reproduction stock and still no stock. I bought one on eBay I believe it was a member here that had it. Over priced but was available. Couldn't post pictures again so Here is a link to test firing. Very happy with the end results into a good shooter with both 7mm and 30-06 for around $3700 and some time. Thanks to everyone here that helped.
  4. I just renewed my 07 sent payment and paperwork off as soon as I received it. New license showed up 3 weeks before old one expired. No inspection yet. NSSF has been sending out info on the ATF's new approach, the article above is correct they are taking licenses for miner infractions. There was a internal memo sent out by the ATF a year ago giving new inspection practices, this was not made public but has been leaked and is out there.
  5. The guy I bought the rifle from said it was his grandfathers, so I doubt he knew the value of the rifle he probably remembered seeing them for sale in the back of magazines. Still some people should not be allowed to own power tools.
  6. I think that was Bubba's method of trying to make it lighter. The trigger housing was also drilled up.
  7. Thanks it should make a nice shooter and look fairly correct. Will post more when the stock shows up. Greg
  8. Ok I got all the broken pieces replaced receiver and recoil stop reparked and a original barrel. Waiting on the reproduction stock. I am still in need of a buttplate and a recoil spring mine measures 11" Did a function check with dummy rounds and everything seems to work.
  9. Got Mine yesterday. Thanks Frank
  10. Where can I find the list by # and which one do you have available in "poster quality"
  11. I won't be taking that sight off, it is not a original barrel. I will be replacing the barrel and will be selling the sporter barrel.
  12. Yes I just ordered one from Randy "Murray's" He sends it out to have the hole bored and a new tube installed. Price for stock, forearm, finished in a nice walnut with stain and new tube was $1079 Greg
  13. Ok after some work (making a new folder) and reseting my phone format will see if this works. Looks like it did. Thanks ArtR for the help, always a learning curve for a new forum. I spend most my time over at 1919a4.com one of the members there sent me this way.
