  1. Thanks guys, great eyes.
  2. I agree. The wood is too cherry to have been used much, if at all. I see more darkening on the pistol grip, which is to be expected, being the area that is handled the most. Many of my milsurps exhibit the same darkening on that area, even if stripped and re-oiled. Maybe a refinished stock, possibly with some sanding done(?). There’s some finish loss on the sharp edges of the metal, which is to be expected of anything that is handled much, along with what may be newer scratches on the barrel.
  3. No, I firmly understand that. It’s far from my first rodeo in the milsurp world, but I am curious about that one, as it caught my eye. Other than the sight, is there anything else that is questionable?
  4. What do you guys think about the three on Proxibid (Centurion Auctions)? I’m looking hard at s/n 1890. I see the front sight wings are filed off, so as a former Marine, I’m hoping it would be one that my brothers used.
  5. Thanks for the response, Art. I’d like to get the holes filled, everything else I could easily DIY. I know Brownells has plug screws that can be screwed in and then filed/stoned/peened. I’m not a fan of a complete refinish as I think that makes rifles lose their character. I know that I’ll probably “lose” money, lol.
  6. Hi guys, a local acquaintance came into a Johnson at a very low price. I may be able to convince him to let go of it. It appears to be the military configuration with the Johnson scope mount as seen in Canfield’s book. It’s missing all of the rear sight components, front sight and bayonet lug. Other than the drilling and tapping, I think it would be a steal. I would likely send it off to a pro (Miltech?) for restoration. Does anyone know the current price for Miltech work? What would an appropriate price be for the rifle in that state? I have a bad habit of picking up molested milsurps and repairing them.
  7. New member here, (thanks for the help so far!) with a fairly nice C&R collection. I really think I want to add a Johnson next. What do we think of B3378? I have “the book”, and I’ve wanted an M1941 since about 2005.
