Johnson rear sight

3 posts in this topic

Hi fellas, my first post here. My friend brought over his Johnson and I admit it was the first one I held or fired. I have worked on guns for 55 years too. Anyway, the tabs on the sight that engage the elevation slide are broken off. Hard to hit anything when the slide moves every shot.

I was thinking of making new tabs and using little rivets, fasten them to the sight.

Does anyone sell sights?

It does not have a bolt hold open either. I would like to find a schematic of the rifles, where do I find one?

Joseph Scott, who frequently posts here, makes a very nice reproduction type II rear sight and may be able to repair yours if it is a type II or III. Numrich sells a reproduction type I for around $50 but the color and temper are not quite right. http://i39.tinypic.com/2nvwlj9.jpg

For those who are unfamiliar with sight types, the top is a type I, 2 and 4 are type II and the 3rd is a type III
