My new JSAR needs a barrel maybe....

3 posts in this topic

Hello, I just picked up a JSAR at an estate sale last week. I even have the original receipt. All military config. Super nice shape except for the last few inches of the barrel which are rusty and pitted. Incredibly, the bore is excellent! I'm looking for a barrel for it to bring it up to par. Maybe I should just keep it the way it is. I sure appreciate your help.

thanks, billrok

Got any pictures you can post? Maybe someone can help you save the original barrel. Finding an original barrel to replace it will be difficult and likely expensive. A reproduction barrel is likely available from a board member. Saving the original is almost always my preference even if it isn't perfect.

Since your barrel is bad only at the end, one possibility is to have it counter-bored to 5/16"(.312") or perhaps to 8mm to remove the bad areas. This is a common practice in foreign countries. This may save your original in a shoot-able condition.
