Unfinished Johnson Stock by whom ?

6 posts in this topic

Bought this unfinished and goofed up stock from Ebay, about a decade ago.

Wood is walnut.

Any idea, of whom the maker was ?

Any idea if it can be salvaged ?

In my opinion, it looks like someone was learning to use a duplicator. There is so much wrong, I don't think it can be saved. I believe it is a copy of the old Fagan stocks. Copying the outside is easy, getting all the holes correct is difficult, especially the recoil tube. There are actually two overlapping holes which need to be bored while the blank is still square and can be clamped in a drill fixture. I have no idea what the hole through the bulge is for.

It has nice grain. Try reselling on E bay or suggest sawing it into pistol grip slabs for such as for 1911's. Since it does not have through holes, you can get more slabs than usual.

So nobody else gets fooled, the disposition of this stock will be, that this stock will be cut in half through the inletted area.

Then sometime in the next few years, be put on ebay, as nice scrap walnut.
