Those (THAT?) post-war Mexican Johnson(s)

1 post in this topic

In my wanderings through the Miranda saga (still incomplete), I came across a possible "manufacturer" of semi-auto JLMG(s). There are two possible theories on this arm. First, they (it?) could have been an extreme post-war (circa late '60s through '80s) and have been produced for ARMEX or Tom Nelson's arms import firm (Omega?).

A more interesting second theory concerns a U.S. "expatriate" tool company called Vimalert. That company specialized in "marinizing" aircraft engines for boat use (Liberty engines in '20s onward and Allison engines post-WWII). I suspect that the principal of that company - Robert Cuse - had a business relationship with the Mirandas. Research thus far (and it is minimal at best) suggests that Cuse relocated to Mexico City and turned to manufacturing tools (drill presses, etc.). It is possible that he fabricated some semi-auto (or converted some "regular" JLMGs) M1941s either for possible production (in competition with JAX) or to demonstrate the ability of his tools.

Anyway, just something else to ponder.

Bob
