1941 JSAR vs the M1 Garand

1 post in this topic

I'm partial to both rifles, have them both. But in reviewing the manual for the JSAR concerning disassembly for maintenance the Garand is superior. For the Garand simply pull back oh the trigger guard and the entire firing group pops out for inspection and cleaning. The action readily comes out of the stock and maintenance to the gas system is easily done. The JSAR requires a bit more intensive attention and care. Take the barrel out, poke this pin, pull this off, and poke out this pin. And it gets more intensive.

The 1941 JSAR was a good rifle, but IMO the Garand was better simply for maintenance. Which may be a part of why the JSAR wasn't more readily issued. A rifle for highly trained and motivated troops. Such as the USMC's Parachute corps. And, just saying, but there are some small parts and small parts get mis-placed.
