Recoil tube location

1 post in this topic

While checking out a sporter, it is plain that recoil tube is too far forward, so I decided to compare with an original. Checking for bolt travel to the utmost rear position that I can pull bolt, the rear of the extractor cut comes within 3/16" of rear of op handle cut in receiver. Another method is pulling bolt to rear, the distance from bolt face to front of receiver opening is 4.050". This is the room for the case to clear out of the gun. Another quick way is to remove bolt stop plate and measure from rear of receiver to front of recoil tube, I get 2.125". If a gun does not give these dimensions, the recoil tube is in wrong location and should be corrected. Insufficient bolt travel can result. BTW, the sporter's tube is 3/8" too far forward
