"Gun List" info

2 posts in this topic

Guys,

With original rifles in/on auctions and other websites routinely in the 5 to 7K range it makes me wonder how anyone but an advanced (or so called purist) collector with really deeps pockets can afford one of these rifles. I’m fairly certain Mel is certainly smiling now that his rifle has exceeded in value of most M1 Garand’s (sorry Mel) including the M1C and M1D. Winfield sporters have recently topped the 3 K range and are climbing steadily upward.

In the recent issue of the “Gun List,” June 30th issue (page 14) I found a small paragraph about Miltech restored rifles. “This company has been in business for the past 19+ years and has built a reputation as a specialist in rebuilding and refinishing selected military firearms for collectors, military historians and classic firearms enthusiasts. In addition to refurbishing these rifles, all firearms sold by Miltech are fully inspected for safety and are considered safe to shoot. (not like some of the so called originals with blued parts I’ve seen in the past) All firearms have their original receivers and original markings. (nothing is added or re stamped). These rifles are NOT stamped with the Miltech name but have a unique Miltech pine crate serial numbered to the gun as a standard feature. (original shipping was a cardboard box for the barrel and that was placed inside a larger box which contained the rest of the rifle assembly after it was dipped in a preservative (cosmoline) no special markings on the box I could see and the box was sealed with tape) The company will verify that it did the rebuild, if requested. All weapons come with a manual sling and other selected accessories depending on the model selected.

The value “Gun List” shows on these rifles is now 3K which I’m certain will or has increased. With original rifle values out of most collectors reach they are a very good alternative. I have a pair of these rifles in my Johnson collection which now numbers 18 not counting my Dardicks. I find nothing wrong with a Miltech rifle. The waiting list for one of these rifles can be or is a long one which can be very frustrating. They sell every one of the JR's they do. I believe Miltech only does them when he (Ed S,) aquires a certain number of rifles. That could be once or twice a year probably closer to once a year. Anyway I think they are very good. I go to range with mine and shoot as often as time allows.

This is only my opinion.

Have a safe and Happy 4th of July.
