  1. Great work!
  2. I think there are two sets of those notches on the firing pin. The one near the middle is where the washer should go...and yes, no back and forth movement. Don't close up the hole in the washer for the FP spring as it has a little finger on the back that goes into that hole. Refer to the linky below, number 8. http://www.johnsonautomatics.com/disassembly.htm
  3. I had the same issue when I first broke down mine for cleaning. Think it was here that I saw a fix. Someone suggested squeezing the washer with pliers to push it into the notches in the splines of the firing pin. Tried it and it's held for years. It is a softer metal, so you need to be careful, make sure it stays round and has no burs. I think Miltech solders them in place during restoration...could be wrong about that.
  4. I had a similar issue awhile ago. The fired round extracted, but was dropped by the extractor before hitting the ejector. Turns out there was so much slop and fore/aft movement in the (I have to assume aftermarket) extractor, that it wouldn't hold the spent case. If I recall, the dimensions of the one I replaced were a little different. Bought a new one here, and it's been fine since...except it's pretty difficult to remove the charging handle now that it's all tight.
  5. Gonna take awhile to digest that
  6. With my tax refund I should be able to buy a brochure. Sigh....
  7. Saw that on GB last night. Lots and lots of pictures. And so folks don't have to go to GB, here's the link http://www.gunbroker.com/Item/598979525
  8. If it helps, I think I have a forend around here...somewhere. Best described as a fixer upper. Would probably need to be broken and re-glued. It doesn't have any metal.
  9. How many do I have to buy before they are free?
  10. Anyone else lose a few posts they made recently? I replied to 2 threads and after the site went down, yesterday?, they are gone. Nothing important...just winning lottery numbers and such.
  11. I've been using HXP M2 ball with no issues. That's what was intended for the Johnson to use. I did have feed issues with modern hunting ammo (spent case with a shorter bullet seated) when function testing. I didn't use any for shooting though. Some here have rolled their own, but I'm not sure what loads they used.
  12. Like the "been there done that" look.
  13. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=503496488 You'd still the need pins IF you have a correct barrel.
  14. YMMV with the repro extractors. It seems no two are alike...small differences in overall size. The one I had was loose enough to drop the spent case before it would hit the ejector. Good luck!
  15. Ohhhh ouch! Was the spring loaded pin in the center of the charging handle all the way down into the bolt? This pin goes through the hole in the extractor and into the bolt, locking them all together. Mine's pretty snug and I've always had to use a little pressure to seat the charging handle all the way back into the bolt after cleaning. Even more so after installing a new extractor. That's all I can come up with, but you'd think this would've happened sooner in the shooting session if what I said was the case.
  16. Even trees feel the need for self defense sometimes... Wouldn't it be amazing if they were able to put a name with the rifle?
  17. Interesting way to "fix" an issue, if it was in fact to tighten up the dovetail. Since it would be covered, I would've taken the sight off, peened the receiver in the middle a few times and reinstalled to check fit.
  18. Yes it did, but it will still ding the brass up. Nature of the beast. After replacing the spring, I had an extraction issue...Would extract the case, but the claw would drop it before it hit the ejector. Haven't taken it out since, but it seemed to be working when operating the action by hand. Got another extractor from Mr Scott btw.
  19. That's exactly how mine acted when I first took it to the range. Yes, you need a new 12" long recoil/mainspring. You can pm Joseph Scott here on the board for a new spring. He also has a dvd for sale that explains/shows how to disassemble and maintain the Johnson. If you have a FAL rifle. you can use the same multi-tool that's used for the pistol grip nut/recoil spring nut in the buttstock to remove the Johnson's mainspring. YMMV due to slight manufacturing tolerances. On the Johnson (assuming you have separated the stock from the receiver already), remove the butt plate, you'll see the end of the buffer recessed into the stock. That buffer is what is screwed into the spring tube. If you don't have a FAL tool, then find the largest blade flathead screwdriver...you may end up buying one to fit so you don't bugger up anything. IF you are lucky...it will break loose easily, but it probably won't. Once it unscrews, remove the buffer, spring and plunger. Clean the inside of the tube thoroughly, as well as the buffer, lube lightly and reinstall with new spring. You may want to apply a little anti-seize to the buffer threads for the future.
  20. Pick up the latest copy of Military Surplus.
  21. Sorry guys, all it has for a date is 2015. As usual, lots of color pictures. I recall years ago when I first saw these magazines that there were almost NO color pics. Thank goodness that's changed. As for the content. It covers from the C96 and TT-33 pistols to the M1917 and M38 Carcano and lots of stuff in between. There is a neat write up with pics of a Japanese SLR.
