  2. I couldn't if I wanted to (I don't and can't currently WA)but thought it was interesting; funny another one needing some work popped up on GB US M1 Carbine 30 Caliber Winchester 1942-44 5.7 Spitfire Converted Project - Curios & Relics at GunBroker.com : 1041574069 wonder if the Winchester receiver will spur some bidding?
  3. M1 carbine universal .256 Ferret - Semi Auto Rifles at GunBroker.com : 1040542552 Seller doesn't know what it is; anyone have any insights. Seems like a broken trigger housing is replaced but included in sale.
  4. Thanks, I wasn't surprised when there was a problem, the seller was obiviously being evasive in our communications. It was Tim Copeland I took it to, over in your direction, in Estacada. Good guy, he didn't even charge me for the front on rear sights he had and installed!
  5. I first saw this Spitfire on GunBroker at too high a price; asked the seller several questions and his relies were not forthcoming. About 15 months later it was listed again by the same seller at a more reasonable price and I decided that if it proved to be a mistake, I could always part it out and get my money back, it was. When I got it, it wouldn't correctly chamber a round, the last 1/8" didn't seat, close inspection I could see a tiny shoulder like reaming of the chamber had never been finished. Took it to a somewhat local Gunsmith (48 miles each way) and it turns out that whoever first reamed the barrel had ruined it, the portion that they had reamed was too big somewhat out of round. Looked online for another barrel with no luck for months, when I discovered this old thread https://johnsonautomatics.com/messageboard/index.php?/topic/2133-value-of-carbine/ and contacted Tony to see if he still had the spare barrel he mentioned. He did and we made a deal. Took the barrel and the gun back to the same Gunsmith and waited, he had a several month backup at the time. But now the rifle is back he did a great job and even found front and rear sights for the rifle which it didn't have when I purchased it off GB. The Underwood receiver was made in '43 here it is on the top shown with my CMP Standard Products .30 cal Thanks again, Tony if you see this.
  6. ED,

I just left a bid on this barrel on GB:  M1 Carbine Barrel 5.7MM/22 Spitfire caliber Melvin Johnson - Rifle Barrels at GunBroker.com : 989963174

I've got an Underwood conversation spitfire, but the barrel was ruined by improper reaming when the barrel was installed, and I've been looking for a barrel for over a year.

I noticed after the bid that this barrel doesn't have a skirt on the threaded end as I'm used to seeing on original 30 cal. barrels; would this be a problem as far as putting it on a WW2 receiver?

    Regards,
