  1. I'm on the lookout for a .30-06 barrel for my 1941 Johnson. Needs to be a decent shooter (meaning at least 3 MOA groups or better at 200 yards,) and needs to look original from the outside (meaning original front sight, bayo lug, and barrel profile.) Can pay in cash, money order, or electronic payment. I also have a spare 7mm Mauser barrel (Navy Arms import) that I would be willing to trade. Please let me know what you have. Thank you!
  2. That's very true. You wouldn't know it from that score, but I was a high master myself not long ago. My username is my distinguished rifleman number. I stopped competing actively around 2018 or so and now I just shoot for fun. If you ever shot highpower matches in the New England area circa 2012 to 2018 or so, we may have met. Is it OK to post a "Want to buy" thread here? I'm still looking for a .30-06 barrel.
  3. It was 7mm random brand factory ammo. It shot good, I can't blame any of my bad shots on the barrel or anything else. The first 5 shots were sighters so they don't count for score. The official results for record were: Slow prone: 96-0 Rapid prone: 75-0 Offhand: 82-0 Total: 253-0 Rapid prone obviously killed me and that was all me. Had been paying attention to the monitor, I might have been able to shift my point of aim a bit mid-string. I didn't (I'm not used to electronic targets) so everything was out on the right. That's just lack of practice on my part. It's really a wonderful rifle.
  4. Quick update on an old thread. I was able to shoot the Johnson at a Veteran's day vintage match this morning. It shoots nice! I shot OK slow fire prone. Rapid prone was rough, and off-hand was "OK." The rifle functioned perfectly and is a pleasure to shoot.
  5. Both barrels have the same markings (30-06 on the collar and 7mm on the chamber.) The only difference that I can see is the spare is marked 8084E on that locating lug thing.
  6. I recently acquired serial number 4744 and I'm looking to learn what I can about this rifle's history. It appears to be one of the Chilean imports chambered in 7mm. I've attached some photos and would appreciate any comments or insight about the rifle. It has a few dings and the machining on the receiver seems a bit rough, but having never handled another JSAR I'm not sure if that's just how they were. There's also what looks like scoring on the outside of the bolt, but again maybe that's normal too? I removed the barrel for pictures but haven't done anything else so far. It could use a cleaning for sure. From what I can tell it was in a safe probably since the 80's. It was part of a collection held by a gentleman who recently passed away and was sold to me by his estate. I don't think much of the collection was fired often, many of the more "modern" (80's and 90's vintage) pieces were still in their original boxes. It also came with a second 7mm barrel with all of the hardware (sight, bayo lug, etc.) I'd love to get a .30-06 barrel. Not sure if anyone might be up for a trade or if anyone might have a sportsterized barrel that I could transfer the mil parts back onto. Definitely interested to hear ideas.
