Failure to extract

1 post in this topic

I have had several inquires about failure to extract and even tearing off rims. This is not due to main springs but to inside of the chamber. Very fine pits or residue inside the chamber cause the brass to stick and not release at the proper time. Likely the chamber was not cleaned as was the bores. If this occurs, try cleaning the chamber with a brass shotgun brush and bore cleaner. If cases still stick, polish a unfired round with Scotch Brite while spinning the round in a variable speed 3/8" drill chucked on the bullet. When fired, examine the case with a magnifier looking for fine brass smears where it pulled metal due to pitting. Recovering a pitted chamber by honing is a real pain but sometimes works. A weak main spring (common) causes the brass to eject far the the right and dings the shoulder. A new spring usually fixes this.
