Scoped JSARs

2 posts in this topic

We are all aware that there were no production scoped JSARS from Cranston Arms and none reported used by US  (or other) forces during WWII. Post war  there have been many JSARs on which scopes have been mounted by both Winfield Arms and various gunsmiths.  As far as military use goes, Castro's forces during the Cuban revolution were often pictured with scoped JSARs and the Bay of Pigs invaders (reportedly armed and trained by our own CIA) sported scoped JSARs.  The scopes pictured in photos have large bells like variable power scopes.  Does anyone have any information as to the scopes and mountings.  This is all part of the continuing saga of JSARs post WWII

Brian, many years ago, I was contacted by a retired US navy captain who wanted a cheap Johnson ($100 range)  who said he had been the person who bought the rifles for the rebels from a large dealer in the west.  No details on the rifles and I don't remember the person's name.  Just a side note on the convoluted story.
