Info please on JSAR serial # 0217

4 posts in this topic

Hi, new to this..  I have an early model Johnson 1941. #0217  It looks pretty beat-up, and am worried that the barrel is worn-out..

But when I "slugged" the barrel, it measured at .306 average but hardly any rifling visible on the lead that came out...

Any input on barrel wear or the rifling is greatly appreciated..

Thanks,  Bill

If the barrel is very dark, take the time and effort to thoroughly clean the barrel....there are several good products out there that will help to scrub/dissolve built up crud. Using a good brass brush will help immensely. Find and use a bore guide so that you do not damage any rifling at the muzzle end. I have seen several old barrels ('03, '17, Garand) that cleaned up fairly nicely and became fair to good shooters. If the barrel is then determined to be totally shot, some on this forum may have leads/links to possible used /new replacement barrels.
